Sonora resident Charles “Chuck” Houghton Will Jr. died June 1 at his home. He was 80.
Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, his family later moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he graduated from high school.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in 1955 and went on to marry his wife Shirley.
The couple lived in Newport, R.I., for two years and San Diego for two years before he left the Navy in 1959.
He and his family then settled in San Jose, where he worked as an electrical engineer for Varian in Palo Alto for more than 30 years, retiring in 1998.
The couple moved to Sonora in 2001.
He enjoyed woodworking, classical music, theater, taking Elderhostel and independent trips with his wife and playing cribbage.
Mr. Will is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Will, of Sonora; children and their spouses, Susan and Mark Tonnesen, of Los Altos, Carrie and William Fountain, of Warner Robins, Ga., and Charles Will, of Aptos; grandchildren and their spouses, Sarah and Bert Parham, of Kentucky, James and Jamie McCullough, of Georgia; Rachel McCullough, of Virginia, and Matthew and Kelly Tonnesen, of California; and two great-grandchildren.
A service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Los Gatos United Methodist Church, 19 High School Court, Los Gatos.
Donations can be made to Books Aloud Inc., P.O. Box 5731 San Jose, CA 95150.
Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
