Death1864Guilford, VT, USA, "insane for 70 years"
BiographyBrad Stauf: I did find out what happened to Anna, the daughter listed as "Defective" in the Ralph & Jane (Stowe) Houghton history, probably originally sourced from Hemenway's Vermont Gazetteer. She died in 1864 in Guilford listed as "insane for 70 years". The curious thing is her mother is listed as Mary instead of Susanna; Anna was born 1775 but John Houghton apparently married Susanna Dodge in 1770 . I'd chalk that up to lack of knowledge by whoever filled out the death record, but it also lists her exact age to the day so clearly they had some detailed knowledge about Anna.
