Houghton - In Greeley, June 26th, Mr. W. C. Houghton, aged 54 years.
Mr. Houghton was among the early colonists, coming to Greeley from Maine in 1871; in 1874, he removed to California, where his wfe died. In 1878 he returned to Greeley and resumed business as bridge builder and contractor. For several years he was in partnership with W. S. McElroy, under the firm name of Houghton & McElroy.
After the dissolution of the firm, Mr. Houghton confined himself mainly to bridge building and similar work. For the past year his health has been gradually failing until about three weeks ago he became much worse, and yesterday at 9:30 a.m. he died. Mr. Houghton was a man highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. He leaves a wife, to whom he was married about six years ago; also two daughters and a sson, children by his first wife, all of whom are married. The funeral services took place at three o'clock, and were very largely attened; the funeral was in charge of the United Workmen, of which Order he was a member. The Rev. A. K. Packard officated.⁴

Greeley, Weld Co., CO, USA, Greeley Tribune:
William S. Houghton, the bridge contractor, died suddenly at his home, 1518 Sixth avenue, at 4 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, from a nervous shock. Mr. Houghton had his right leg broken at the sugar factory about three weeks ago, by a heavy stick of timber falling upon it.
The injury was apparetnly getting better, but last Sunday Mr. Houghton experienced a peculiar nervousness and evidently passed away as a result of this shock.
Deceased was born in Maine 42 years ago and came to Greeley with his father, W. C. Houghton, in 1870. He is survived by a widow and five children.
The funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon. Revs. Hunter and Patterson officiated and the remains were laid to rest in Linn Grove cemetery.⁴
