ResearchRichard Acker: John may have worked for Mr. Astle, since family history says that John lived in one of three houses that Mr. Astle owned on Red Bank (?) hill in England. Mr. Astle emigrated to the US (my records say that "Robison print works sent for a master engraver and Elijah Astle was sent to America"). Richard Hoghton (John's brother) followed Mr. Astle shortly thereafter, and John and Nancy came not long after Richard. Our records indicate that John and Nancy Hoghton arrived in Fall River, Massachusetts at the end of 1829.3
ResearchRichard Acker: John's father was named Henry, and that Henry died around 1815 after having lost his money in the cotton trade.

Because I don't know what John Hoghton's connection was with Hoghton Tower, I cannot say for sure we are related to the Hoghtons of the Tower. But I am pretty sure we are, because Richard's brief memoirs include recollections of scenes within the "castle." There was also family lore that our branch of the family had been cut off from the Tower Hoghtons somehow - perhaps someone had married below his rank?3
