Biography

'He was a prominent man in the community and actively engaged in promoting its interests. He was appointed postmaster in 1830 and held the position until his death. He was a justice of the peace for the same length of time and was often engaged in probate matters. The community in which he lived owed much of its prosperity to him. He was often selectman; had charge of a circulating library for a number of years, and was chairman of the building committee, when the North Congregational Chruch was erected. His wife was a woman of much culture and refinement. He died November 23, 1845, and his widow, November 6, 1884, aged eighty-six years.²'
