Kenyon: "I thought that perhaps you don't have this bit of info: Another correction, namely info. from a typed book on Houghtons by a distant cousin, S.O.H. Mills.* (Its title is "Families of Houghton, Mills, Farrand, Tufts, and Ross: 1616-1974." His daughter, Zelda Mills Garthwaite, typed his copious genealogical papers and compiled them into a book. She gave copies to interested relatives.) JWH's 1912 book names a Harry SHERMAN Houghton on p.462. Mr. Mills says that this is an error. The mother of HSH, Mrs. Carlos Palafox H., (Angelica Taylor Houghton) told S.O.H.M. "repeatedly" (he says) that it should be Harry SHERWOOD Houghton. * SOHM's sources for info on these families included: 1912 book, Nourse's Lancaster records, Vital records of Union Co., Westfield Presbyt. Ch. records, Hatfield's History of Elizabethtown, Clayton's History of Elizabethtown, Whitehead's Proprietors of East Jersey, 2nd ed., DeVries Elizabethtown Book, O'Callaghan's New Netherlands, and records held in the past by Mrs. Wm. A. Ewing (Maud) and Mrs. James M. Warner (Lil). I haven't looked up these women, but I know that Mrs. Warner owned a Houghton Family Bible (Abijah Otis's?) years ago, which was cited in DAR records.
