Casper Horsch and Margaret Ott


Casper Horsch was born in 1856 in Metzdorf, near the city of Trier. His parents were Franz Horsch and Margaret Schmidt. Margaret Ott was born in 1862 in Kell, which is also located near Trier. Her parents were Nicolaus Ott and Anne Marie Dorscheid. Margaret Ott's family immigrated to America in 1872, when she was 10 years old.

Casper Horsch immigrated to America in 1873 when he was 17 years old. He sailed from Liverpool, England with Michael Horsch and his four daughters on the ship Calabria. They arrived in New York City on November 12, 1873. The 1880 census shows the Nicolaus Ott family living at 162 Hurlbut Street in Chicago. Casper Horsch was living at 215 Hurlbut Street with his cousin, John and Mary (Horsch) Troesch. Casper and Margaret were married in 1881, and lived at 936 George Street in Chicago.

Casper returned to Germany and brought his father, Franz to America. They travelled from Antwerp, Belium on the S.S. Rynland, and arrived in New York on on August 12, 1886. Casper and Margaret had six children. Some of them remained in Chicago, while others moved to Hammond, Indiana. One of their grandsons moved to Houston, Texas.
