William Henry Higginbotham (1868-1952) TN
Mr. Higginbotham Dies Thursday; Rites Saturday
William Henry Higginbotham, 83 year-old retired Warren county farmer, died at
the home of a son, Clarence Higginbotham, in West Riverside Thursday evening at
10:30 o'clock.
He had been ill four months and had been blind for the past twenty years.
Funeral rites were held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at Shellsford Baptist
Church. Rev. John S. Trent, the minister, officiated and burial was in
Shellsford cemetery.
Mr. Higginbotham was born in Warren County November 11, 1868. He was a son of
Mr. & Mrs. Jonathan (Aaron) Higginbotham and he married to Miss Elizabeth Bush
(Bost), who preceded him in death.
Mr. Higginbotham was a member of the Baptist Church.
In addition to his son, with whom he made his home, Mr. Higginbotham is survived
by another son, Walter Higginbotham, McMinnville; two daughters, Mrs. Charles W.
Conlin, McMinnville, and Mrs. R.J. Seals, Ft. Worth, Texas; one sister, Mrs.
Jennie Rowan, Nashville, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Manier Higgenbotham, 84, were
held Sunday at Hooper & Huddleston with burial in McBroom Cemetery. John A Chalk

Mrs. Higgenbotham, widow of Aaron Armstrong Higgenbotham, died at Master's Rest
Home on Friday.
She was a native of Putnam County, daughter of Thomas and Matilda Burgess Manier
and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by a son, Harvey Higgenbotham of Cookeville and a half-brother,
Chester Clemons of Double Springs.

Mrs. Willa M. Higginbotham (1941-1974) KY
A Chattanooga woman driving home with her husband on a downtown street in Chattanooga was shot and killed Sunday, the innocent victim of a bullet-ridden family feud, police said. Mrs. Willa Higginbotham, 33, died of a bullet to the head Sunday while driving her husband home down Ninth Street, where police said several relatives were arguing and shooting outside. Ira Thomas, Jr., 42, of Chattanooga , has been charged in the slaying. Police said seven shots had been fired from two guns during the skirmish, a stray bullet killing Mrs. Higginbotham.

Mrs. Hollie Higginbotham, 81-year-old-resident of Route 9,
died at 5 p.m. Friday in McMinnville Health Care Center. Mrs. Higginbotham was a
homemaker and member of the Shellsford Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Linda (Kell) Hillis. She was the
wife of Clarence H. Higginbotham who survives. Other survivors are three
brothers and three sisters, Leroy, Thomas M., and Asa Kell, all of McMinnville,
Mrs. Lucille Grisson of Rock Island, Mrs. Mary Julian of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs.
Betty Upton of McMinnville.
The service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Shellsford Baptist Church. Don Owens
and John Turner officiating. Burial followed in Shellsford Cemetery.

Elizabeth Anne Pidkowicz Higginbotham, 44, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Higginbotham was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Oak Ridge High School Boosters Club. She was born in Bossier City, La., on July 20, 1955, the daughter of Joseph and Anne Hagen Pidkowicz, now of Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Higginbotham is survived by her husband, Roger Higginbotham; her son, Joshua Roger Higginbotham of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Kevin Pidkowicz and his wife, Peggy, of San Diego, Calif., and Patrick Pidkowicz and his wife, Gale, of Collierville; and three sisters, Anne Felicia Pidkowicz of Oliver Springs and Suzanna Wilson and Katie Carden, both of Knoxville. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jerry R. Higginbotham and his wife of Washington; her sister-in-law, Patricia A. Johnson of Knoxville; and by many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Diaz officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Aug. 16, at Weatherford Mortuary. A Rosary will be said at 8 tonight in the chapel of the mortuary.

PLANT CITY, Fla. — Donald Joe Higginbotham, 48, Plant City, Fla., died
here Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001.
He was a Johnson City, Tenn., native and had lived in Florida for the past
several years. Mr. Higginbotham was a son of Don and Betty Garland Higginbotham.
He graduated from Happy Valley High School, Elizabethton.
Mr. Higginbotham was an Air Force veteran, having served in the special forces.
He was employed by J.P. Morgan Chase Security.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother, Mike Higginbotham,
Johnson City; two nieces, Amy Kuntz, Johnson City, and Brandy Curd, Piney Flats,
Tenn.; one nephew, Christopher Higginbotham, Johnson City; and several aunts,
uncles, and cousins.

Christiana resident and Warren County native James Leland Higginbotham,
84, died Aug. 21.
A retired merchant marine engineer and a member of the First Presbyterian
Church, he was the son of the late Charlie and Ada Mai Farless Higginbotham; and
was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Graham Gordon Higginbotham in 1989.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Dianne Higginbotham of
Christiana; and granddaughter, Raven Grey Higginbotham of Christiana.

Morterman Braxton Higginbotham, a former Bronson resident, died
Sunday at his home in Spring City, Tenn. He was 81.
Mr. Higginbotham was born in Gadston, Ala., and was a U.S. Army veteran of World
War II, a 32nd-degree mason and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Leigh Higginbotham of Spring

ERWIN — Wilma Jane Higginbotham, 77, formerly of 417 Union St., Erwin,
died Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at the Center on Aging and Health, Erwin.
She was a Yancey County native and was a daughter of the late Park and Roba
Honeycutt Adkins. She was the manager of the Erwin Motel for 21 years before her
retirement. She was a member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. Other than
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Higginbotham, and
one brother, Reece Adkins.
Survivors include Two Sisters: Mildred Franklin, Lawrenceville, GA, Lora Adkins,

Mrs. Higginbotham passed away Monday, January 17, at her residence in Camden.
She was born on July 7, 1920 in Fayette County, W.Va., to the late James
Buchanon Bragg and Sarah Elizabeth Fox Bragg. She was a homemaker, a member of
Red Star Baptist Church in Red Star, W.Va., and a member of Eastern Star in Oak
Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnett Baker Higginbotham, who passed
away March 17, 1988; four sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include four daughters, Sarah Rose Higginbotham Harris, of Camden,
Margie Uldine Higginbotham Sykes, of Dutton, Va., Zella Irene Higginbotham
Halstead, of Belleville, Ill., and Cynthia Delphane Higginbotham Barker, of

2005 at his residence.
Mr. Higginbotham was a native of Erwin and had lived in Johnson City since 1953.
He was a son of the late Jefferson Bane and Ethel Elizabeth Lloyd Higginbotham.
He was a former employee of Smith-Higgins Wholesale Drug Co. Mr. Higginbotham
was a member and former deacon of Harrison Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Donald Joe Higginbotham in 2001;
and three brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Bobby Higginbotham.

Ola Lance Parker. Mrs. Higginbotham was a homemaker. She was of the Christian

Higginbotham, in 1983; and a sister, Ann Parker.

Mary Frances Laws, age 83 of Greeneville, passed away Friday morning at her home. She was a member of Stone Dam United Methodist Church. Roger Lynn Higginbotham (1946-2007) TN
Roger Lynn Higginbotham, age 60, of 134 Witcher Avenue, Erwin, passed
away Saturday, March 24, 2007, in the Johnson City Medical Center after an
extended illness.
Born in Erwin, he was the son of Bane and Gladys Huskins Higginbotham. He
retired in 1998 as a barber after 31 years as the owner and operator of Roger’s
Barbershop. He was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, Roger leaves behind his wife, Faye King Higginbotham; one
son, Roger Neil Higginbotham, Bel Aire, TX; two aunts, Betty Higginbotham,
Johnson City, Irene Higginbotham, Erwin; three cousins, Tim Higginbotham, Erwin,
Mike Higginbotham, Johnson City, Tammy Davis, Johnson City.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at two o’clock in
Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Doug Hinshaw will be officiating the service.
Friends may call at the residence of his parents, 424 Tenth Street, Erwin. All
those planning on attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the
funeral home by one-thirty Tuesday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Multiple
Sclerosis Society, 9801 Southern Pine Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28273 or to your

HIGGINBOTHAM, Ralph Burger - McMinnville resident and Warren County native Ralph Burger Higginbotham, age 93, was born June 30, 1913 and died June 8, 2007 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. A retired supervisor at Burroughs-Ross-Colville Company and a life-long member of the Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Della Massie Higginbotham. He was born and raised on the Higginbotham family farm in the McCollum Bend of the Collins River. He was a charter member of Moss Chapel Methodist Church and presently a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was married December 5, 1936 to Nellie Ruth Goodwin who preceded him in death January 7, 2005. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter and two infant sons; grandson, Michael Hennessee; son-in-law, Billy J. Hennessee; three brothers, Clarence, William and Harold Higginbotham and three sisters, Winnie Higginbotham, Florence Couch and Eva Mayfield. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Sue Hennessee of Columbia, TN and Carolyn and David M. McCarroll of Murfreesboro, TN; granddaughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and David Gibson of Franklin, TN, Martha and Joe Moss of Brentwood, TN and Kate McCarroll of Washington D.C.; great-grandsons and their wives, Michael and Andrea Hennessee of Franklin, TN and Chase and Sean Moss of Brentwood, TN; great-granddaughters and their husbands, Annie and Branden Glenn, April Gibson and Allyson and Nathan Gonzalez all of Franklin, TN; step-granddaughter, Kim Moss of Nashville, TN; great-great-grandchildren, Tristan and Isaac Glenn, Taylor, Carlee and Michael Gauge Hennessee and Ezra Gonzalez all of Franklin, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2007 in High's Chapel with Mark Carrigan officiating. Burial followed in the New Union Cemetery on Hwy. 30 in McMinnville.

Jefferson Bane Higginbotham Jr. (1925-2007) TN
UNICOI — J.B. Higginbotham Jr., age 81, passed away Wednesday, June 20,
2007, at the Unicoi County Medical Center.
Born in Unicoi County, he was the son of the late Ethel Lloyd and Jefferson Bane
Higginbotham Sr. J.B. worked for 36 years at Clinchfield Railroad, serving in
many positions. He was a member of Winsome Sunday School Class at Calvary
Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Roger Higginbotham; and
his four brothers, Don Higginbotham, Harold Higginbotham, Kenneth Higginbotham
and Bobby Higginbotham.
J.B. leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Gladys Huskins Higginbotham, Erwin; two
sisters-in-law, Betty Higginbotham, Johnson City, Irene Higginbotham, Erwin;
nephew, Michael Higginbotham and his wife, Pam, Johnson City; daughter-in-law,
Faye Higginbotham, Erwin; and grandson, Neil Higginbotham, Houston.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Six O’clock in the
chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. David Crutchfield and Rev. Tim Bennett to
officiate the service. Music will be provided by Gary Amos. The family will
receive friends two hours prior to the service. Graveside services will be held
Sunday afternoon at One O’clock in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Higginbotham, Neil Higginbotham, Christopher
Higginbotham, Tom Lowe, Phil Harding and Raymond Dugger.
All those planning on attending the graveside services are asked to meet at the
funeral home at 1:30 Sunday afternoon to go in procession to the cemetery. In

Dorothy Hunt Higginbotham (1938-2007) TN
Dorothy H. Higginbotham, 69, of Eagleville, passed away on Aug. 5, 2007
at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
She was a native of Sherwood, Tenn., but has lived in Rutherford County for most
of her life. Dorothy retired from Alvin C. York Medical Center and was a member
of the Midland Baptist Church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; Tommy and Annie Hunt. She is
survived by her son, Jim Higginbotham of Shelbyville, daughters; Beth Underwood
of Eagleville, Ruth Sherrill of Manchester, and Joanne Velez of Nashville,
brothers; Anthony Hunt of Nashville, and James Hunt of Smyrna, sister, Eva
Walker of N.J., and eight grandchildren.
A chapel service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel with Willis
Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Family and
friends will serve as active pall-bearers. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.

Marguerite Francis Higginbotham (1922-2008) TN
Marguerite Higginbotham died Wednesday July 9, 2008 from natural causes at her home. She was a caring, accomplished woman of substance beloved by many. Those that call her friend are innumerable. Those that were loved by her will remember her presence in their lives with gratitude. A lover of poetry, Mrs. Higginbotham lived a remarkable life marked by a generosity of spirit, an insightful intellect and a love for her children. She possessed a constant faith and abiding love. She was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children Karen Francis of Memphis and David Francis of Los Angeles; her grandchildren Ken Francis and Ben and Sarah Helfinstein; her great grandchildren Abigail and Cooper Francis; her sister Betty Morgan of Macon, Georgia and her niece Joann Merrill of Memphis. She was pre-deceased by husbands, Ben Francis and Carl Higginbotham and two sons, Kenneth and Benjamin Francis. Jim Higginbotham, 43, of Midland Community, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 at Heritage Medical Center. He was born to the late James Fullerton and Dorothy Higginbotham. He was a motorcycle mechanic with Classic Custom Cycle. Jim was an avid motorcycle rider and was in the Dart League in Murfreesboro. Jim is survived by his sisters, Joanne Velez of Nashville, Ruth Sherrill of Manchester and Beth Underwood of Eagleville; nephews, Justin, Nathan, Brandon, Hampton, Fisher and Tommy; nieces, Abby and Samantha. Frances Elizabeth Higginbotham Battles of Clifton, TN was born June 20, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of the late Henry Higginbotham and Lillian Price Higginbotham House. She was united in marriage to Elmer Battles on February 23, 1941and he preceded her in death on September 18, 1981. Mrs. Battles was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She had lived on Chigger Ridge Road in Brookwood, AL before moving to Clifton, TN. Mrs. Battles departed this life on Monday, August 3, 2009 at Wayne County Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 83 Years, 1 Month, 14 Days. Karen Anderson Higginbotham (1959-2010) TN
Karen Anderson Higginbotham, 51, of East Brainerd, TN a woman of great faith and character died peacefully Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Northshore Fellowship Presbyterian Church and all who knew her would agree that she lived worthy of the gospel of Christ. We are thankful for her shining example of courage and contentment in life and death. Karen was an incredible hostess and a friend to everyone she met. She enjoyed hiking, traveling, dancing and giving of her time for others such as planting flowers in their yard. She especially loved daisies. She enjoyed making cards with thoughtful notes to send to her friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Darleen Grayce Anderson and later her step mother, Aletha Jane Anderson. Survivors are her husband of 28 years, Bruce R. Higginbotham; two sons, Caleb and Jake all of Chattanooga; father, Roy C. Anderson, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her siblings, Pamela Lillibridge, Greenville, S.C., Sharon Booth , Murfreesboro, Timothy Anderson , Bryant, Ala., Larry Anderson , Murfreesboro, and Lydia Guthrie, Atlanta; along with nine nieces and 11 nephews. Erman Louise Higginbotham Barkley (1930-2011) AL/TN

Erman Louise Higginbotham Barkley, 80, passed away on April 8 at the Tennessee Veterans Nursing Home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Erman was born in Birmingham on Sept. 7, 1930. She attended Pensacola High School and Toccoa Falls Christian College in Georgia. She became a window dresser in Augusta, Ga., where she met and married Jon B. Barkley in 1951. She and her husband Jon had their first son, Thomas T. II, in 1952 in Huntsville. Shortly after, they moved to Detroit, where Jon worked in the steel mills and Erman became a cake decorator through the Wilton Cake Decorating School. Erman had her second son, Jon B. Jr. in 1954. The family then moved back to Huntsville and Jon went to work for NASA, Erman went to work first for Brown, then Sperry Rand and finally Boeing as an illustrator. Erman had her third child, Susan E. in 1958. Erman was an accomplished artist that dabbled in various mediums. She has painted and decorated cakes for her church, her friends and her family. In 1981 Erman decided to become a nurse and started nursing school at Calhoun Technical College. After graduation she became an LPN and went to work at Huntsville Hospital. She joined the West Huntsville Baptist Church and was always inspired to go and be with her church family. She went to Israel, the trip of a lifetime, with her church family and spoke of it often. She is survived by her sisters, Frances of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Patricia of Pensacola, Fla., and Phyllis of Denver; her children, Thomas and his wife Jackie of Murfreesboro, Jon B. Barkley Jr. of Decatur and Susan E. Barkley and her husband Kim M. Burnham of Essex Junction, Vt. She is also survived by three grandchildren their spouses and five great-grandchildren. Erman has donated her body to the Vanderbilt School of Medicine so there will be a memorial service at the West Huntsville Baptist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donation be made to the West Huntsville Baptist Church in Erman's name.

Marie Horton, 87, went home May 12, 2011. She died from complications of COPD. Marie was born in Enterprise, Mississippi, to Kyle and Pearl Higginbotham. She retired after 28 years working in the Courtesy booth at Pic Pac. She was a member of Cherry Road Baptist Church. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Tommy D. Horton and her son Richard Horton. She leaves one son, Robert Horton and one daughter, Jean Clayton and her husband, Joe; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lowe and her husband David of Memphis and Angela Harrington. She is also survived by two sisters, Florayne Scipper of Memphis and Reba Dill of Wyoming, four great-grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. SWIFT, Frances Louise Higginbotham Age 93. Passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 and is now present with her Lord. She was born on November 11, 1917. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Harold McKnight Swift "Slim"; son, John Harold Swift "Jack"; parents, John Ozanne and Lillian Gertrude Higginbotham; sister, Ruth Rawls (Bill); brother, Paul Leonard Higginbotham (Louise); granddaughter, Teresa Swift Ricketts of Chattanooga. Survived by her daughter, Patricia Ruth Swift Cary (Ed) of Brentwood; grandsons, Bill Cary (Emily), Jim Cary (Dana), John Swift and Michael Swift of Nashville; granddaughters, Vanessa Swift Adams (Bill) of Kentucky and Lisa Swift Shivers; eight great grandchildren including Walker, Avery and Abigail Cary, Niki, Briana, Heather, Amanda and Sean; seven great great grandchildren. Mrs. Swift attended Clemons Elementary School and Hume Fogg High School. She was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church and the Ruth Bible Class. She retired from Castner-Knott Company in 1990 after 33 years of service, all in the linen department in the Green Hills Store. She loved her Lord, her family, her friends, her country and she had such a zest for life. Although she faced multiple health problems, her attitude was positive, and she was our family's sunshine. She kept up with current events, politics, the Titans, the Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves. Listening to WSM and the Grand Ole Opry was a favorite pastime. In her younger days, she loved to paint, sew, embroider, knit and crochet. Her hands were never idle and her heart was full of love. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers are the ladies of the Ruth Bible Class. Charles M. "Bunk" Higginbotham, 77 of Ardmore, Tennessee died on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Lincoln Care Center in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Born Monday, October 22, 1934 in Athens, Alabama, he was the son of the late D.M. Higginbotham and the late Willie Mae McDonald Higginbotham. He was a lifelong resident of the Ardmore area. He served as a Deacon for over 30 years and was a member of Elkton Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, cattle farming, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife: Martha Nell Ferguson Higginbotham. Surviving are his wife: Rosie Curry Higginbotham of Ardmore, TN, sons, Jeffery (Lynn) Higginbotham of Mount Juliet, TN and Charles W. CHARLES L. HIGGINBOTHAM, 85, of Memphis, passed away on July 25, 2012. Preceded in death by husband William S. Foster III; brothers Richard Allen Higginbotham (Augusta) and John Mearl Higginbotham (Leona). Survived by sons William S. Foster IV, John Henry Foster, James Stephen Foster (Carmen); and three generations of nieces and nephews descended from the branches of the Higginbotham and Napier family trees. Mom taught junior high in Memphis and Louisville, KY and taught English at the University of Tennessee. She was an avid reader, a loyal guardian of Tiger, the family cat, and a devoted fan of Lady Vols basketball, good tennis, and good grammar. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the many dedicated health care staff who cared for Mom over the years, especially those of Comfort Keepers and Brakebill Nursing Home. Dorothy J. Higginbotham, 84, of McMinnville died Saturday, Jan. 19, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born in Chattanooga on July 12, 1928, a daughter of the late Rosa Lee (Wiseman) and Hershell Gibbs. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Leo Church of Christ. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda J., and husband James Harris, of McMinnville; and Mildred D. Hunter of Rock Island; son, Billy W., and wife Brenda Higginbotham of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Paul Harris, Monica Harris, Tisha Hunter, Shahn Hunter, Holly Hunter, Michael Higginbotham and Jason Higginbotham, great-grandchildren Hannah McCormick, Madison Harris, Pattie Harris, Michelle Lance, Paton Cook, Violet Higginbotham, Jay Higginbotham and Cooper Higginbotham. Lockie Mae Higginbottom Mitchell was born February 1, 1913 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late French Emmet and Dora Mae Isbell Higginbottom. She was united in marriage to Ward Mitchell on July 10, 1933. Mr. Mitchell preceded her in death on July 10, 1980 following 47 years of marriage. Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate of Selmer High School. She was formerly employed in retail sales for more than 20 years, and was a member of the Selmer First Christian Church. Mrs. Mitchell departed this life on March 21, 2013 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 100 Years, 1 Month, 20 Days. She is survived by three sons: Robert D. (Bobby) Mitchell and wife Tommye, Wayne D. (Doug) Mitchell and wife Barbara J., and Joe F. Penney Co. and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Carrie Alice Dodson Johnson. She was married to Drury Higginbotham who preceded her in death in 1979, and Charley Medley who preceded her in death in 1996. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Keith and Barbara Joyce Fuston; one son, Art "Butch" Higginbotham; one brother, Louis Johnson; and one sister, Margie Pearsall. She is survived by son-in-law, James G. Grover Louis Higginbotham, age 88, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital. He was born August 17, 1925, in Meehan Junction, Mississippi, to the late Monroe and Pearl Higginbotham. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in several campaigns and earned a Purple Heart during action in Okinawa. He made his home with his family in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1952 and retired from the United States Postal Service after 30+ years of service. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Higginbotham, Bennie Higginbotham, Marvin Higginbotham, and one sister, Mary Lee Quiteriano. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mable Agnes Wheeler Higginbotham; four sons, Louis Higginbotham and wife, Judy of Orange Park, FL; Bob Higginbotham and wife, Teresa of Olive Branch, MS; Larry Higginbotham of Southaven, MS; David Higginbotham and wife, Kathy of Bartlett, TN; one daughter, Lorie Higginbotham of Southaven, MS; two sisters, Elsie Moore of Gulfport, MS and Gloria Allen of Meehan, MS. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Knoxville, TN Bobby Higginbotham, age 86, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Nitro, West Virginia passed away early Sunday morning, December 11, 2016 in Knoxville. Bobby was a member of Farragut Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Nitro West Virginia Policeman and member of the Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He later was Plant Controller with Allied Chemical in Nitro West Virginia and El Segundo, California, where he retired. Bobby was an avid golfer and had seven holes in one. After moving to Knoxville, he was a Golf Ranger at Fox Den Country Club. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. Carolyn A. 80, passed away on January 22, 2017. Preceded in death by Charles L. Higginbotham, her husband of 53 years. She leaves her children, Suzanne (David) Dickey of Pea Ridge, AR and Eddie (Kenya) Higginbotham of Bartlett, TN, her sister Beverly Black of Memphis, TN and her grandchildren, Kyle and Heidi Higginbotham of Bartlett, TN. Mrs. Higginbotham, affectionately known as "Miss Higgy", served 26 years on staff at Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, TN, where she was a member since 1973. Positions held at Bellevue included Director of Graded Choirs, Production Costumes and Banners, and Director of the Prayer Ministry. Prior to serving at Bellevue, Mrs. Higginbotham was a professional dress maker for Halpern's Fabrics in Memphis. Mrs. Higginbotham also taught the Philathea Sunday School class for 40 years and the Women of the Word class for 5 years. Her family was more than those connected by birth or marriage. She also leaves thousands of graded choir children, scores of banner men and women, prayer ministry partners, graded choir staff, costume seamstresses, fellow Bellevue church staff members, faithful Sunday school members, her beloved "Monday Nighters" as well as thousands of other "Special Persons." Visitation will be held in the Worship Center at Bellevue Baptist Church Saturday, January 28th from 10:00AM to 12:30PM. Followed by the Funeral at 1:00PM. Irene Tinker Higginbotham (1929-2017) TN
September 5, 1929 - March 24, 2017 Erwin, Tennessee
Irene T. Higginbotham, age 87, Erwin, passed from this life on
Thursday, March 23, 2017. She was born on September 5, 1929 and was a daughter
of the late Charlie and Lora Chandler Tinker. Irene was a lifelong resident of
Unicoi County. She retired from Industrial Garment. Other than her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Higginbotham on April 24, 1983 and
one niece, Gloria Jean Cagle.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, a daughter, Barbara T. Granger,
Nashville, TN, a sister, Alma Cagle, Asheville, NC and a nephew, Walter Lee
Cagle, Marietta, GA.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future at the Embreeville
Freewill Baptist Church.

Margie Cole Higginbotham (1922-2017) TN
Margie Cole Higginbotham, age 95 of Nashville, passed away
Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Hillcrest Healthcare in Ashland City.
She was born May 24, 1922 in Franklin County to the late William Richard Cole
and Maggie Prince Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United
Methodist Church since she was a young child. Margie was a fantastic seamstress
who also enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting. She was a member of the home
demonstration club and loved to work word search puzzles, gardening flowers and
vegetables and was active in the church activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George
Higginbotham; siblings, Ralph Cole, Cleo Huffer, Wilma Boswell, Gladys Cole,
Lynn Cole and Roy Cole.
Survivors include her son, Jim (Robbie) Higginbotham of Hixson; daughter, Sharen
(Bruce) Winczewski of Nashville; grandchildren, Heather Higginbotham and Dr. Jim
Hayes, Ashlie Higginbotham and Van Nguyen, Jamie Higginbotham and Justin Tursin,
Brent (Jennifer) Winczewski, and Ryan (Katie) Winczewski; great-grandchildren,
Jasmine, Quintin, Savannah and Jameson; and great-great granddaughter, Penelope.
Visitation will be 12-2 pm Wednesday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be 2 pm Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev.
Ken Irvin officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery with family

Christine Steed Higginbotham (1921-2017) LA/TN
Knoxville, TN - Christine Steed Higginbotham, 96½ years, died peacefully at home on July 3, 2017. A Southern Lady with a kind and gentle soul, still "sharp as a tack," and loved by family and friends. Born on February 10, 1921, in Greensburg, Louisiana. Christine is preceded in death by parents Charlie and Annie Steed, sisters Juanita Jolissaint and Ruth Penton, and brothers Ernest and Calvin Steed. Christine is survived by daughter Linda Higginbotham; sons Andrew Higginbotham and wife Geneva, and Richard and Michael Higginbotham; grandchildren Michael Higginbotham, Kimberly and husband Matt Dalton, Mary and fiancee Shawn Moore; and great-granddaughter Shiloh Paluso who had a special connection with her great-grandmother; sister Janey Disbrow; and many family members and friends. Attended Southeastern Louisiana College 1938-1940, member of college tennis team. Came to Oak Ridge, TN in 1943 to work on Manhattan Project at Y-12 Plant in Medical Division. Played on Tennessee Eastman tennis team 1944-1947. Charter member of Oak Ridge chapter of Eastern Star. Medical Technologist for Children's Clinic for 26 years, retiring in 1988. Exercised 3 days per week for 12 years at Fort Sanders West Cardiac Rehab Center, an inspiration to her exercise friends. Her charm and wit were enjoyed by the "Bookettes" and "Birthday Gals." Christine and Virginia Spivey Coleman, both "Girls of the Atomic City," gave presentations about their Manhattan Project experiences, have oral history interviews at Oak Ridge Public Library, and flew to Washington, DC as guests of Honor Air to visit war memorials. Memorial service on Saturday, July 22, at Oak Ridge Unitarian Church, 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. Receiving friends at 3 pm, Eastern Star service and memorial service at 4 pm.
