Two Fliers Killed in Airplane Crash

London, Ont., Nov. 26-Two Royal Canadian air force men, Lewis Duff, 23, sixth-ranking Canadian tennis player who learned much of his game at the University of Miami, Florida, and John Higginbotham, 23, of South Crane, N.J., were killed today in the collision of their training planes near here. Both were classed as leading air craftsmen.

The school commandant said Duff and Higginbotham were preparing to land when their machines collided at an altitude of 500 feet. The locked and crashed together.

Clement Bardolph Higginbotham (1883-1954) NJ/FL

SCOTCH PLAINS - Clement B. Higginbotham, a Scotch Plains resident for 20 years, died Friday of a heart attack at Bradley Beach, where he had made his home four years. His age was 72. He was a retired employee of Scotch Plains Township. His wife was the late Mrs. Lenore Golden Higginbotham. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Higginbotham was a member of the Methodist Church here, Varick Lodge 31, F&AM, Jersey City and Union County Blind Association. He is survived by four sons, Clement B. Jr. of North Plainfield; James H. of Kinston, N.C.; Harold C. of Norwalk, Cal. and Joseph G. of Plainfield; three daughters, Mrs. Robert S. (Betty) Kremer of Plainfield, Mrs. Frank (Anna) Blaszcak of North Plainfield and Mrs. John (Irene) Schottinger of Second street, Fanwood; two brothers, Harold of Asbury Park and Rudolph of Bradley Beach; three sisters, Miss Elizabeth of Bradley Beach, Mrs. George W. Rurode of Bradley Beach and Mrs. Carlton N. Conner of Chevy Chase, Md., and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the A. M. Runyon & Son "Home for Services," Plainfield, Tuesday morning with the Rev. Cloyd Osborne, pastor of Scotch Plains Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Cemetery, Plainfield. Varick Lodge conducted its rites at the funeral home Monday evening.

Earl M. Higginbotham (1909-2006) NJ

Earl Higginbotham of Mount Holly, died Thursday, November 2nd at the Samaritan Hospice Unit at Virtua Hospital in Mount Holly. He was 97. Born in Mount Holly, Mr. Higginbotham was a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army in World War II. He received his Engineering Degree from the University of Utah and served as the Burlington County Engineer for many years retiring in 1972. He was a New Jersey Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor, PE&LS #3711 and he owned his own surveying business. He was a former member of the Mount Holly Lions Club and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Higginbotham is survived his his wife of sixty years, Mildred; six children and their spouses, Dick (Katy) Higginbotham of Medford Lakes, Sally W. (Chuck) Rickolt of Ocala, FL., Lois (Shawn) Ritchie of Westampton, David (Laurie) Higginbotham of Westampton, Gary (Shiela) Higgins of Lumberton and Paul (Michele) Higginbotham of Riverside. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a brother, James (Betty) Higginbotham of Mount Laurel. He was predeceased by a sister, Alfrieda Carr. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10 AM at the PERINCHIEF CHAPELS, 438 High Street, Mount Holly. Interment will be in Locustwood Cemetery, Cherry Hill. Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

BOOKER, YVONNE HIGGINBOTHAM, 91 - of Voorhees and formerly of Atlantic City, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Booker retired in 1979 after decades of employment with the Atlantic City Public Schools as Manager of the Dietary Department. Her family was one of the founding families of St. Augustine Episcopal Church. Surviving are: two daughters, Charlene Y. Booker-Moore of Voorhees and Sandra E. Peoples of Cherry Hill; grandchildren, George Peoples, Sheila Peoples and Allison Moore. A viewing will be held from 10AM until 10:30 AM Friday, March 23, 2007 in the Greenidge Funeral Home. Graveside services at 11:15AM in the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.

Lauren Flint Totty Higginbotham (ca1948-2008) NJ

JERSEY CITY-Services for Lauren F. (Totty) Higginbotham, 60, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, were private. She died May 10 in Jersey City. She worked for 30 years as a legal secretary at New York Law School and for New York City property attorneys Lucas Ferrara and Stuart Adler. In 1961 she replaced Patty Duke in the national tour of "The Miracle Worker." She was a member of Actors' Equity. Surviving are her husband, John; and two sisters, Martha Vilandre and Susan Totty. Michalski Funeral Home, Jersey City, is in charge.

Elizabeth Ilene Hare Higginbotham (1908-2009) NJ/MI

Elizabeth Ilene Higginbotham, nee Hare, 100, formerly of Woodbury passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She was the beloved wife of Marcus 3rd, who predeceased her in July 1997. Her brother, William J. also predeceased her in September 2003. Her husband and her father, William J. Hare, Sr., were the owners of Hare Motor Company in Paulsboro. Mrs. Higginbotham, born and raised in Westville, was a graduate of Woodbury High School and the University of Pennsylvania. She was a teacher at West End Memorial Elementary School in Woodbury from 1956 to 1973. Prior to her teaching career she was a social worker in Monmouth and Gloucester Counties and buyer for R.H Macy Company in New York City. In 1961 she served on the New Jersey Committee as a member of the White House Council on Aging. She is survived by son, Marcus of Troy, Michigan and son, Richard of Tampa, Florida, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A third son, William, of Woodbury predeceased her in August 2002. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill. Services will be private and are under the direction of DAVIS-WAGNER FUNERAL HOME of Woodbury. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date in 2009 in Woodbury for family and friends to celebrate the lives of Elizabeth, Marcus and William.

Frank N. Higginbotham (1916-2009) NJ

FRANKFORD TWP. -- Frank N. Higginbotham, 93, died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the home he built and loved. Born in Paterson, Frank was raised in West Milford before moving to Frankford Township in 1971. He was a self-employed Master Carpenter before retiring in 1980. A former Director of Recreation in West Milford, Frank was a charter life member of the West Milford Elks. He was also a life member of NRA, a member of AARP, a former member of the Yulan, New York, Rod & Gun Club, a former member of the Greenwood Lake Rescue Squad, and a former member of the West Milford Police Auxiliary. Frank loved golf, hunting and fishing. The son of the late Frank N. and Leona Wolmart Higginbotham, Frank was also predeceased by his second wife, Sue, in 1984; his son, Frank N. Higginbotham III; and his grandson, Lee Higginbotham Jr. He is survived by his third wife, Maria; two sons, Lee and James, both of Connecticut; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his first wife, Ruth; a sister, Vera Jones; one nephew, Stephen; and four stepchildren, Elizabeth, Boris, Kathryn, and Dimitrio. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at the home of his stepdaughter, Kathryn Jourav, 12 Wisteria Road, Lafayette. Memorial donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Charles Bernard Higginbotham (1942-2009) WV/NJ

HIGGINBOTHAM Charles Bernard Higginbotham, 67, of Neptune, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Ward, W.Va. and has lived in Neptune since 1972. After his service in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, he worked for the Ford Motor Co for 37 years and was a member of the U.A.W. He enjoyed bowling and was also a member of the UAW Bowling League. Charles was predeceased by his father Lucius Lorenzo Higginbotham. He is survived by his loving wife, Madeline Higginbotham of Neptune; his daughter, Yvonne Higginbotham-Wills and her husband Alfred of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his sons, Vincent Higginbotham of North Richland Hills, Tex., Tyrone Jordan of Mich.; his mother, Alice Broady Higginbotham of Oh.; his grandchildren, Andre Brown, George Watkins, Trey Anderson, Savion Higginbotham, Tyrone Jordan Jr., Tiara Jordan; great grandchildren, Emerald and Unique; his sister, Josephine Higginbotham of Columbus, Oh.; his brother, William Higginbotham and his wife Janice of Columbus, Oh.; a host of special nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Cindel, Charlie and Precious. Hazel Manson Higginbotham (1926-2011) VA/NJ

Hazel Higginbotham, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at her residence after a brief illness. Born in Newport News, Va., to the late James and Mary (Mings) Manson Sr., she was a retired field worker for the housing authority in Massachusetts. Hazel was a devoted member of the Trinity AME Church in Gouldtown. She was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing and spending time with her friends and family. Hazel leaves to cherish her memories to three sons, William (Vernetta) Higginbotham, Mark Higginbotham and David Higginbotham; one brother, William Manson; two sisters, Lillian Gould and Virginia Mosley; a special niece and caretaker, Paulette Williams; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Hazel was preceded in death by one brother, James Manson Jr. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Trinity AME Church, Fairfield Township, (Gouldtown), where friends may view two hours prior to services. At the family's request, there will be no final viewing. Pastor Dr. Michael Keene will be eulogizing. Interment will be held at the Gouldtown Memorial Park immediately following services. Grandfather of: Albert Labinski, Amanda Higginbotham, Jeffrey Smith Jr., Jessica Smith, Nicholas Smith, Katelyn Sitkowski, Danielle Higginbotham and Melissa Higginbotham. Mildred Grimditch Higginbotham (1923-2011) NJ

Mildred (Grimditch) Higginbotham, formerly of Mt. Holly, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at Virtua Health & Rehab Center in Lumberton. She was 88. Born in National Park, she had previously shared her time with her husband between Mt. Holly and Beverly Hills, Fla. A member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mildred was a Church Elder and longtime member of the Mt. Holly First Presbyterian Church. While in Florida, she had also spent many hours volunteering at the local hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl Higginbotham. She is survived by her four children: Lois Ritchie (Shawn), David Higginbotham (Laurie), Gary Higgins (Sheila), and Paul Higginbotham (Michele); two step-children, Richard Higginbotham (Katy), and Sally Rickolt (deceased Chuck);16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Ball; two half-sisters, Doris Kellum and Elaine Uhlmann; and a half-brother, Leonard Grimditch Jr. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. Interment will follow in Locustwood Cemetery, Cherry Hill. Friends and relatives may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Barbara E. Glisan Higginbotham (1931-2011) PA/NJ

Barbara E. Higginbotham (nee Glisan), 80, of Hopewell Township died early Saturday morning, Nov. 19, 2011, while surrounded by her family. She was born in Uniontown, Pa., on Oct. 12, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Baker Glisan. A graduate of Redstone High School (PA), Mrs. Higginbotham was the widow of George E. Higginbotham, who died in 1980. A longtime resident of Hopewell Township, she attended the Cumberland County Vocational and Technical School following her husband's death and received training as a nurse's aide. She later earned her certification as a Certified Nurses' Assistant and for 27 years was employed at Renaissance Nursing Home (now SJ Extended Care) in Bridgeton. Several years ago she also worked as an aid in the Hopewell School cafeteria. Mrs. Higginbotham was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeton. She served as a Deaconess, a Sunday school teacher and member of the church's social committee. She also helped with the church nursery. Active with the Hopewell/Stow Creek Fire Company, Mrs. Higginbotham served as the president of the ladies auxiliary for several years. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. Newkirk and her husband, Dale of Hopewell Township, Deborah L. Martindale and her husband, Don of Upper Deerfield Twp.; six grandchildren, Kenneth Newkirk (Pam), Richard Newkirk, Amy Corson (Irving III), Stacey Moreno (Bryan), Farin Martindale (fiance' Peter Kuhl) and Ashlee Goffredi (David); six great-grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob Newkirk, Julia and Christopher Moreno, Madison Corson, Gabriel Goffredi, one sister, Faye Fuller of Jessup, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Kenneth D. Newkirk Jr.; a sister, Jean Newkirk; and two brothers, Cecil and James Glisan. Another sister, Lois E. Seaton, died early yesterday morning. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the FREITAG FUNERAL HOME, 137 W. Commerce St. in Bridgeton on Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, at 10:30 with Pastor Robin Weinstein of the Bethany Presbyterian Church officiating. The burial will follow at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9 until 10:30.

William Higginbotham (ca1942-2012) NJ

EWING - William "Teddy" Higginbotham, 71, of Ewing Township, passed away peacefully on Mar. 9, 2012, at Samaritan Hospice at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly. Born and educated in Trenton, William was a lifelong Trenton and Ewing resident. He was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran. He was a Certified Welder and retired as a Sheet Metal Worker with Local Union No. 27 in 2003. He was a volunteer for hospice and a devoted pastoral aide at various hospitals and nursing homes for more than 12 years. Predeceased by his parents, William and Eartha Higginbotham, surviving are his wife, Rosiland; two daughters, Lesha and Marsha; a son, Irven; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Reginald (Bonnie) of Browns Mills, Moses of Hamilton, Reed and Monroe both of Ewing; a sister, Joy of Ewing, a special cousin, Delores Murray; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends including his loyal and loving dog, "Poochie." Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Cathedral Fellowship Ministries, 1217 Calhoun St., Trenton. Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.

AGE: 82 - Gloucester City On August 17, 2012, (nee Brandt) a lifelong resident of Gloucester City, NJ, age 82 years. She is the beloved wife of the late Alfred J. Higginbotham, Sr., loving mother of Alfred J. Higginbotham, Jr. (Helene) and Dorothy Breslin (Robert), cherished grandmother of Alfred J. III and James (Nicole) and also Nana to James Kelly's children of Stratford Meghan, Nicole and Jimmy. She was the dear sister of Marian Hagan (Robert), Earlene Hillman (late William), Jack Brandt (late Bette) and was predeceased by sister Betty Dobleman and Earl Brandt Jr. Eleanor is also survived by her best friends and neighbors Betty Gallagher and Dot Beebe. Eleanor was a devoted parishioner of Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Bellmawr, and also served for many years on the Camden County Board of Elections. She was a Charter Member and Treasurer of the Lions Pride Booster Club, an avid supporter of Gloucester High School Athletics and a long time member of the Gloucester City PTA as well. Relatives and friends are invited to meet Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30am at the ETHERINGTON-CRERAN FUNERAL HOME 700 Powell St., Gloucester City. Alfred S. Higginbotham, on September 23, 2012, of Strathmere, formerly of Runnemede. Age 73. Loving husband of Kay (nee Snyder). He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company, Strathmere Improvement Assoc., and was a Cape May County Committeeman. She was the beloved wife of the late Winfield Higginbotham, loving mother of Marlene Houlihan (Edmund) and Carol Black (Mark), and devoted grandmother of Wade (Renee), Kyle, Cara (Mark), Eric and Joshua, and great grandmother of Erin, Erica and Elyssa. Mrs. Higginbotham was a wonderful, kind woman who was very devoted to her family. Mass of Christian Burial and interment in New St. Mary's Cemetery were private and held at the convenience of the family under the direction of the ETHERINGTON-CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, Gloucester City, NJ.

Dwayne Higginbotham (ca1963-2013) NJ

TRENTON - Dwayne Higginbotham, 50, of Trenton, departed this life on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton. Born in Trenton, Mr. Higginbotham was educated in the Trenton public school system. He graduated from Trenton Central High School. Mr. Higginbotham served three years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as an E-4 Specialist. Thereafter, he worked for Educational Testing Service for a few years. In more recent years, he stayed active in the field of property management. Predeceased by his father, Clyde S. Higginbotham, Sr., surviving are his mother, Joyce Ann Higginbotham of Trenton; one son, Dwayne O'Hara; two grandchildren, Jaylen and Kayden O'Hara; six brothers, Clyde, Jr., Arnold, Byron, Eric and Farrell Higginbotham all of Trenton and Clyde Higginbotham, II of California; one sister, Karen Higginbotham-Fuller of California; two aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1225 Calhoun St., Trenton. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapel.

Mrs. Grzybowski was the owner of the former B & B Sweet Shop in Gloucester and a former member of the Gloucester City Zoning Board. Collingswood-JoAnn Stotsenburg (nee Higginbotham), age 73 passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 12, 2014. JoAnn was a long term resident of Deptford and formerly of Gloucester City. She lived her last months in Collingswood. JoAnn is predeceased by her husband, George T Stotsenburg of Deptford, NJ her parents Ira and Annie Higginbotham, three siblings, Jane Alexander, Sarah King and Leonard Higginbotham as well as two of her children Michael K Root and Melissa Stotsenburg. JoAnn is survived by a brother Robert Higginbotham of Coatesville, Pa and many nieces and nephews. JoAnn is the loving Mother of four surviving children, Nancy Kaminski of Collingswood, Joanne Rinella (James) of Beecher, ILL, David J. Root Jr (Frank Lampi) and Lisa Stotsenburg of Pausboro, NJ. JoAnn is the devoted grandmother of 8 grandchildren and a great grandmother of 9 soon to be 10. JoAnn was a waitress for many years at Colonial Diner in Woodbury, NJ and served as a Pharmacy Technician at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Woodbury, NJ for many years. She lived in Tenafly before moving to Parsippany in 1991. She graduated with her BA in Marketing from St. Peter's College in Jersey City. Marianne worked for AT&T in Parsippany for over 24 years before retiring as District Manager. She was a member of St. Virgil R.C. Church in Morris Plains and was active with Parsippany Soccer. Mary Higginbotham Beaven (ca1937-2015) IL/NJ

Dr. Mary Higginbotham Beaven, 78, of Teaneck, New Jersey, formerly of Kenilworth, Illinois, July 18, 2015. Mary taught English at New Trier High School, Waters High School as well as Carleton Washburn, all in Illinois. Following her masters and doctorate from Northwestern University, she taught at Northwestern University, Indiana University, University of Massachusetts, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mary's career concluded as the Master of Business Administration program director at Fairleigh University. She was regularly published, received much recognition for her pioneering works. She was a fighter on behalf of all who faced injustice. Mary was an opera and ballet lover, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and had a wonderful smile that would light up a room. Survivors include her sons, Mark Beaven of Los Angeles, CA and Carey Beaven of Roswell, GA; daughter-in-law and grandson, Suzanne Beaven and Chase Beaven of Roswell, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. and Sophia Marie (Flentye) Higginbotham and her brother, James M. Higginbotham. Live, love, lead.
