On Monday Henry T. Higginbotham, of Fresno, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Lillian Keagle, of Stockton. Shortly after the ceremony the couple departed for this city and in future will make their home here. Mr. Higginbotham is highly esteemed by his many friends. The bride is the daughter of John Keagle, a capitalist of Lodi. She was prominent in society and will be greatly missed by a large acquaintance, and he an addition to the society of Fresno.

Hugh Poland Higginbotham & Flora Marshall

Miss Flora Marshall added her name to the list of "war brides," when on Saturday she and Hugh Poland Higginbotham slipped across to San Rafael and were married. The ceremony was read by Rev. Cutting, rector of the Episcopal Church. Higginbotham, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Higginbotham, is in the training camp at the Presidle, and the uncertainty of the future hurried the plans of the young couple. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Archibald Marshall.

Fresnan Is Wed To High School Teacher

PARLIER (Fresno Co.), June 21.

At a pretty wedding last Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Higginbotham, E. B. Higginbotham of Fresno was united in marriage to  Miss Mauda J. Myers of Lutesville, Mo. Rev. Robert E. Wright of the Parlier Methodist Church officiated.

The ceremony was performed in front of an improvised altar of greenery and flowers. To the strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march, played by H. P. Higginbotham, Jr., nephew of the groom, the couple wed at the altar.

A wedding supper was served on the lawn after the ceremony.

Mrs. Higginbotham arrived last Thursday from her home in Lutesville, Mo., where she was a teacher in the high school.

Higginbotham is well known to many Parlier people, having been a frequent visitor at the home of his brother, H. P. Higginbotham. He is employed at the First National Bank, at Fresno. Mr. and Mrs. Higginbotham will live on Olive Street in Fresno, after returning from their honeymoon to the southern part of the state.

Miss Higginbotham’s Wedding Announced

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Toland Higginbotham of Russell street, in the Claremont district of Berkeley, formally announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Vivienne Higginbotham to Mr. Jay Warner Nickels of Springfield, Massachusetts, at a quiet service in Del Monte Chapel last Saturday afternoon, February 6 at 4 o’clock.

The bride is a graduate of the Anna Head school and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority at the University of California. She has spent much of her time during the past few years at Carmel, and was prominent in the art colony there. She is interested in many of the dramatic endeavors presented at the Theater of the Colden Bough at Carmel.

Mr. Nickels represents a large importing firm in the East in their San Francisco offices. He and his bride are to make their home on Washington street, in San Francisco, on their return from their honeymoon.

Completed arrangements for the wedding of Miss Ella Ord of Turlock and Ray S. Higginbotham of Oakdale in the Latter Day Saint Church, Modesto, at 8 P.M. on Friday, August 27th, have been announced.

Miss Ord is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Ord, who reside on the Country Club Road. She was graduated from Turlock High School with the class of 1934 and until recently held an office position in Modesto.

Higginbotham is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Higginbotham. He was graduated with high honors from Oakdale High School last June, majoring in Future Fanner projects.

Miss Wanda Ord, sister of the bride elect, and Robert Higginbotham, brother of the bridegroom elect, will attend the couple.

Miss Ord will be given in marriage by her father. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. C. H. Zerbe of Modesto will sing O Promise Me and Out Of The Dusk To You.

The couple will spend their honeymoon at coastal and bay region points and later establish their home in the Oakdale district.

Miss Higginbotham and Max Caldwell Will Wed Tonight

Miss Marion Higginbotham and Max Caldwell, both of Fowler and former students at the Fresno State College, will be married at 8 o’clock this evening in the country home of the E. M. Higginbotham’s at McFarland.

Rev. J. M. Hamilton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Fowler, will officiate at the garden ceremony when the couple will be attended by her sister, Mrs. Lozan Lampton, of Los Angeles, and Newton Caldwell of Fowler, a brother of the groom elect. James and Earl Higginbotham, brothers of the bride to be, will be ushers.

More than seventy five guests will witness the nuptial ceremony which will be performed at an improvised altar set against a background of trees and fern in the garden. Higginbotham will give his daughter in marriage.

She will be gowned in a wedding ensemble of white lace, floor length, designed along princess lines with long fitted sleeves. The tulla veil, which will be fingertip length, will cascade from a halo of orange blossoms worn upon her couture. Miss Higginbotham will carry a bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley.

The honor attendant will wear a pink lace frock with a fitted bodice, flared skirt and short puffed sleeves. She will carry a bouquet of harmonizing roses.

Following the service, a reception will be held in the patio where the table will be appointed with bouquets of white flowers and white tapers set in low candle sticks. The couple will leave on a month’s honeymoon to be spent in Southern California and coastal cities.

For her going away ensemble she will wear a navy blue and rose two-piece tailored frock with navy blue accessories.

The bride elect is a graduate of Kern County High School and after attending the Fresno State College for a short time studied at the University of California from where she was graduated.  During the past two years she has been instructing dramatics at the Fowler Union High School.

Caldwell was graduated from the Fowler Union High School and from the Fresno State College where he was affiliated with the Alpha Fraternity. He also attended the University of California in Berkeley, where he took post graduate work. He is a teacher in the Fowler school system

Wedding Climax To 'Blind Date' Escort to Formal

Becomes Husband of Oakland Girl in Reno

A "blind date" at a college dance started a romance which led to a Reno elopement for Robert H. Higginbotham, 25, and Miss Florene Freeland, 22, member of a prominent Hawaii and San Francisco family, it was learned here today.

They were married at Reno on Sunday after driving to the Nevada city following a dance in San Francisco, and first word of the elopement was received by relatives here by telegram after the marriage.

Higginbotham, a San Francisco insurance man, is the son of Mrs. Ora Higginbotham, of 5681 Ocean View Drive. His bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Freeland, of Lahiana, Mam, T.H., and is a sister of Mrs. Rodman Pell Jr. and Mrs. Conrad Glade, of San Francisco, and of Mrs. Frederick G. Hamilton, of Piedmont.

Mrs. Higginbotham has made her home for the past several years with Mrs. R. O. Richards, at 127 Bayo Vista Avenue, Oakland. She attended Dominican Convent, San Rafael, and later studied at the University of California, where her husband was a member of the class of 1933.

Friends disclosed that the couple met when Higginbotham was assigned as a "blind date" to escort Miss Freeland to a formal dance at Dominican Convent and the couple's romance began at that time.

They will make their home in Oakland.

Betty Dyer Is Married In San Mateo

Young Matrons of Bay Society Present at Church Ceremony

A perfect June day, a lovely bride surrounded by her attendants and the beautiful interior of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in San Mateo made the marriage of Miss Betsy Dyer, daughter of Mrs. Douglas Alexander of San Mateo to Mr. Howard Hickingbotham of Oakland, one of the most perfectly appointed ceremonies of the Summer.

Shortly before 4 o'clock the wedding party entered the church proceeding slowly to the altar, where the bridegroom with his best man, Mr. Jack Bates, awaited the bride. The center aisle was marked with wrought iron candelabra in which while tapers were used and at the bases there were Madonna lilies and maiden hair fern. The wrought iron candelabra were also used on both sides of the chancel combined with dwarfed Japanese maple and Eugenia trees.

BRIDESMAIDS LEAD

As the wedding party approached the chancel, in the lead were two bridesmaids, who represented the younger matrons and girls from exclusive society circles in the Bay cities. In the group were Mrs. Joseph Hickingbotham Jr, the former Miss Diana Dollar of Piedmont; Mrs. Richard Hanna (Polly Lawrence), Miss Kathleen Thompson, Miss Nancy Heywood, Miss Renee McCreery, Miss Peggy Hunt, Miss Patricia McLean and Miss Lusanne Sullivan.

The bridesmaids were gowned alike in aquamarine blue organza and lace made with heart-shaped necks, bouffant skirts and bishop sleeves. Their bouquets were of blue delphinium and water lilies. They wore garden hats of horsehair braid, matching the color of the gowns. Long velvet streamers and bows were used in the hat trimmings.

Miss Jane Spielker, the maid of honor, immediately preceding the bride, wore a gown similar to those worn by the bridesmaids.

WEARS LONG VEIL

The bride's gown was a French creation of white organza made princess style with a full-gored skirt and a shirred bodice A Juliet cap of orange blossoms held the extremely long bridal veil of tulle in place. She carried a shower bouquet of white orchids and stephanotis.

Mrs. Alexander wore a gown of china blue lace and chiffon and a matching hat.

The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Joseph Hickingbotham Sr. was attired in light gray chiffon and her hat was a creation of gray marline. Her corsage was of orchids.

A reception at the Alexander home in San Mateo followed the church ceremony Mr. Hickingbotham and his bride sailed this afternoon on the Matsonia for a honeymoon of several weeks in the Hawaiian Islands. They will honeymoon part of the time at the Nuuanu Valley home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. George D. Carter of Honolulu. After their return to San Francisco late in July they will take possession of their new home which is being built for them near Burlingame Country Club.

ROBERT C. CORNELIUS WED IN CALIFORNIA

In Oakland, California, on Tuesday evening, February 22, 1944, Miss Vesta Adele Higginbotham became the bride of Mr. Robert Cecil Cornelius, United States Navy. The ceremony was performed before the living room fireplace at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Ora Higginbotham, on Ocean View Drive.

The bridegroom is the youngest son of Mrs. Ida Cornelius of Vandevender Street, Mount Union.

The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Robert Higginbotham. The candlelight service was performed by the Rev. Edwin S. Johnson of Mission Covenant Church.

The bride wore a light blue costume suit with navy accessories. She carried a white Bible on which orchids and freesias were mounted.

Miss Victoria Johnson of Oakland, maid of honor, was attired in a navy blue suit, with pink accessories, and carried pink carnations.

The best man was Mr. James Shannahan, USN, who, like the bridegroom, is stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station.

Unable to be present for the wedding was Staff Sergeant Wallace Higginbotham, U. S. Army Air Corps, brother of the bride, who is in the South Pacific as a turret nose gunner on a Liberator bomber. The young sergeant has received the Air Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, and other decorations for his part in sinking several Japanese ships and shooting down a Jap Zero.

The bride is a University of California graduate with the class of 1933, and is employed as senior interviewer with the U. S. Employment Service.

The bridegroom is expecting sailing orders in the near future, after having been stationed in Alameda, California for the past year.

Miss Marjorie Olsen to Become Bride of Soldier

With Dr. Ralph Marshal Davis officiating at 8 o'clock this evening at the home of the bride on Sunnyhills Road, Miss Marjorie Olsen will be married to Staff Sgt Wallace Higginbotham, who returned home a fortnight ago after three years duty in the South Seas.

Miss Olsen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Olsen, and is a graduate of Oakland High School. She attended the University of California for two years.

Since leaving college, she has been a secretary at the Fourth Air Force.

Lieut. Perry Olsen, brother of the bride, is in the Army Air Forces, stationed at Hobbs, N. M.

Sergeant Higginbotham is a son of Mrs. Ora Higginbotham of 5681 Ocean View Drive. He is a brother of Mrs. J. F. Ryan Jr., of Oakland.

Mrs. Donald F. Graham, sister of the bride, will be matron of honor; her daughters Marilyn and Gloria, flower girls.

Mr. Robert Higginbotham will be best man.

Couple Are Wed In Church Rites

Many Fresnans were among the guests who assembled in the Parlier Community Church to witness the marriage of Miss Gunhild Andersen and Ensign Harry W. Higginbotham. Rev. Carl W. Walker performed the ceremony.

Escorted down the aisle on the arm of her cousin, Arthur Mortensen, the bride was attired in a white satin gown fashioned with long sleeves. It was buttoned in the back and had a full skirt and long train. Her train length veil fell from a beaded coronet. She carried a bouquet of gardenias centered with orchids and tied with white satin ribbon.

Miss Carol Bjerregaard, the maid of honor, wore a gown of dusty pink net and carried a colonial bouquet of Spring blossoms. She wore flowers in her hair.

The flower girl, Alice Andersen, a sister of the bride, wore along gown of white satin and net and carried a small colonial bouquet.

The bride’s mother wore a gold shaded suit. She chose black accessories and wore a corsage of lavender hued iris.

The bridegroom’s mother wore a aqua blue suit with black accessories and a corsage of white gardenias and pink rosebuds.

Jerry Higginbotham of Fresno, a cousin of the bridegroom, was the best man.

Mrs. Hershell H. Cook played piano solos before the wedding ceremony. Mrs. Carl E. Walker sang Because and I Love You Truly. Miss Jeanetta Milton sand Always.

Seven branch floor candelabra holding burning white tapers, and large white baskets filled with white gladiolas, calla lilies and stock, banked the altar before which the couple exchanged their vows. The candles were lighted by Miss Margaret Zaninovich and Miss Barbara Jepsen.

Seating the guests were Frank Dick, Alvin Andersen, a brother of the bride; Kenneth Henriksen, Milton Andersen and Richard Andersen.

A reception immediately following the ceremony was staged in the church parlors. Mrs. Robert McKinney and Miss June Jepsen served coffee at a table which was covered with a handmade ace cloth and centered by the traditional three tiered wedding cake, topped with figurines of a bride and bridegroom.

On either side of the cake were crystal candlesticks holding burning ivory tapers. The reception room was decorated with tall white baskets of pink flowering peach blossoms.

At the reception Miss Phyllis Haehr sang And Then My Heart Stood Still, accompanied at the piano by Miss Barbara Jepsen. Assisting in serving were Misses Virginia Lee Milton, Lorraine Tabler and Evelyn Madsen.

The bride changed to a lime green traveling suit with hat and veil to match. She chose brown accessories and wore an orchid corsage. The couple left by train for Gulfport, Miss., where Higginbotham will be stationed for the next four weeks.

Mrs. Higginbotham is a daughter of Mrs. Anne K. Andersen of Parlier. She was graduated from the Parlier High School and attended the Reedley Junior College.

Higginbotham is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Higginbotham of Parlier. He was graduated from the Parlier High School and Reedley Junior College. He enlisted in he Navy in April, 1943, and received his training in San Luis Obispo, Holbrook, Ariz., St. Mary’s College, Oakland, Asbury Park, N. J., and Columbia University, N. Y. He received his commission in the Cathedral of St. John the Devine in New York City.

The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Higginbotham of Philadelphia, Miss. She attended Mississippi State University.
