1.SAMUEL WHITING

Samuel Whiting was born in Sussex County England May 18, 1776 and

died in Pocahontas County VA (WV) June 9, 1856. He married Sarah

Lancaster in England. Sarah was born in 1780.

The family came to America about 1823. They lived in New York for

a few years and then moved to present day Gilmer County WV. Some time

before 1850, Samuel, Sarah and son Ebenezer moved to Bath County VA

and then to Elk, VA where Sarah died unexpectedly.

Samuel married Jennie Hannah and they settled in Pocahontas

County.

2.MERCY WHITING 1.SAMUEL WHITING

Mercy Whiting, a daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Lancaster) Whiting,

was born in Sussex County England about 1808. She married Elias

Varner. The couple apparently lived in Pocahontas County VA and moved

to present day Gilmer County WV about 1838. Elias was born in VA

about 1810 and died in Gilmer County VA (WV) between 1850 and 1860.

Samuel Whiting, a son of Samuel and Sarah (Lancaster) Whiting, was

born in Sussex County England about 1811 and died in Gilmer County VA

(WV) between 1850 and 1860. He married Mary Susan Varner. Susan, a

daughter of Joseph and Christin Varner, was born in Pendleton County

VA about 1814.

Robert Whiting, a son of Samuel and Sarah (Lancaster) Whiting, was

born in Sussex County England August 20, 1813 and died in Gilmer

County WV September 10, 1872. He married Sarah Jane McCray. Sarah, a

daughter of Robert and Margaret (Bennett) McCray, was born in Lewis

County Va (WV) August 23, 1822 and died in Gilmer County in 1889.

Ebenezer Whiting, a son of Samuel and Sarah (Lancaster) Whiting,

was born in Sussex County England September 4, 1817 and died in

Pocahontas County WV May 31, 1869. He married Sallie McMillion

January 16, 1842. Sallie was born in 1818 and died in Pocahontas

County in 1890.

Charles Thomas Whiting, a son of Samuel and Mary Susan (Varner)

Whiting, was born in Gilmer County VA (WV) October 14, 1852 and died

there January 24, 1940. He married Sarah Ann Stump February 11, 1875.

Sarah, a daughter of Maranda and Minerva (Conrad) Stump, was born in

Gilmer County January 22, 1854. After Sarah died, Charles married

Emma Lorentz. Emma, a daughter of Jacob Jr. and Mary Sisson (Bland)

Lorentz, was born in 1867.

1858 and died December 28, 1947.

about 1855 and died April 9, 1895.

Samuel married Gertrude Fishback June 3, 1905.

1851.
