descended from the Revolutionary
War General "Mad Anthony"
"Calhoun County Lines & Links" for December 1983 published a
genealogy of the McElwain line with the following quote.
"All Jacob's children took the name "
of Gilmer and
the names "McElwain" and "Wayne" from year to year.
Traditionally, the family maintains that they are related to the
Revolutionary General, Mad Anthony Wayne, although there is no
documentation.
The McElwain name appears in various records as "McElwain",
"Mucklewain", "McCevain" and "McClewain." Since the objective of
this paper is to assemble information, we will present data as
nearly as possible to the way it came into the writer's hands.

Jacob Wayne, a

Parsons, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Bush) Parsons. His
second wife was Rebecca (Nichols) McCune, a daughter of Levan and
Margaret (Mace) Nichols and the widow of Daniel McCune, and
lastly, Nancy Barnhouse. He had a total of eighteen children by
two of his three wives.
