Nicholas Stemple was born in Germany about 1665. His wife is

unknown. He arrived at the port of Philadelphia PA aboard the ship

"Samuel" August 30, 1737 with his family.

Jacob Stemple, a son of Nicholas Stemple, was born in Germany

about 1690. He arrived at the port of Philadelphia PA aboard the ship

Gottfried Stemple, a son of Jacob Stemple, was born in

Wittenburg, Germany January 20, 1727. He arrived at the port of

Philadelphia PA aboard the ship "Samuel" August 30, 1737 with his

family. The family settled in Washington County MD.

Gottfried married Margaret Boyles. Margaret was born about 1733 and

died about 1799. Gottfied was a member of the Committee of Observation

for MD in 1776.

The family bought 1000 acres of land in Monongalia County VA for 333

pounds, 6 shillings and 8 pence. They relocated to their new land about

1780.

"In the name of God, Amen, I, Godfried Stemple, being this day in my

common memory and understanding of mind, though weak in my body by

reason of sickness, I do make this my last Will and Testament, viz and

my Will and Desire that after my decease my body may be buried in a

decent and Christian like manner as my children, my neighbors and

friends shall see it proper and that after my just Debts and funeral

expenses are paid of, my will and Desire is that the Remainder of my

estate be Divided and Disposed of after the following manner, to-wit my

will and Desire is that my son David Stemple Shall have the part of my

land whereon he now liveth, as the lines thereof hath been I known by

John Compton and it is my Desire that my three Sons shall have all land

between them to be their property and that they may pay their Sisters a

part equal with them of my estate. I do appoint David Stemple to pay Ten

shillings for each acre he has reserving an equal childs part of the

value of the land in his own hands.

I give to my son Martin Stemple my dwelling plantation to be his

property, the lines thereof' to stand as they are now known by John

Compton. he paying ten Shillings an acre for the Same as Such payments

as will be after named, only he Shall Keep an equal childs part in his

own hands. My will and Desire is that he, Martin, is to have my improved

plantation, he is to pay thirty pounds for the building. I appoint him

to find Sufficient feed for two or at most three cows for my wife

Margaret to subsist on and also to give her every year ten bushels of

wheat and ten bushels of rye and one hundred pounds of pork and half

barrel of whiskey. To sow half an acre of flax for her use. I also will

and Desire him with his brother David to make for my wife fifty pounds

of sugar. The sugar is to be made on my Sugar Camp land by David and

Martin but if owner of the Sugar Camp should sell the land, then the

finding of the said Sugar is to cease, otherwise it and all the other

Subsistences before mentioned is to be found every year as long as She,

Margaret my wife, Shall live. I give to my son John Stemple that part of

my land known by the name of the Sugar Camp, the lines and bounds to

stand as they are now Run by S'd Compton, him, John Stemple, allowing

and paying ten Shillings an acre for SD land. My will and Desire is that

my wife Shall have my Dwelling House to her proper use as long as She

Shall live. I also will her all and everything of my household furniture

to be her property, and my will and Desire is that my S'd wife shll have

thirty pounds worth of my movable estate to be her own property. It is

my will and Desire that my son, Martin Stemple have all my Distilling

utensils for which after he hath made the last of his other payments he

Shall pay twenty pounds at the annual payment often pounds per year, he

reserving a childs part in his own hands. My will and Desire is that my

three Sons pay to their sisters their part after the following manner.

That is to say, the first payment is to be made in May 1798. The

payments is to be made at fifteen pounds a year, the first fifteen

pounds is to be made to my two oldest daughters. Christianna and

Barbara. Said Christianna to have ten pounds and Barbara five pounds and

no more of my estate, at all except she and s'd Barbara Should have a

child or children and then she shall receive half a Childs part with her

other sisters. The second yearly payment of fifteen pounds is to be made

by my three Sons to my daughter Catherine, The third yearly payment of

fifteen pounds is to my daughter Rosina and the fourth to be made to my

daughter Susannah. The fifth to my daughter Eve, and the sixth to my

youngest daughter Annamary.

And my will and Desire is that the residue or Remainder to be paid at

yearly payments as in before mentioned till the whole is paid off by my

three Sons, they keeping their own equal parts in their own hands. My

will and Desire is that my wife shall have the use of half of the garden

or as much thereof as she can tend, and my will and Desire is that my

son Martin find my S'D wife a sufficiency of fire wood for her use so

long as she shall live.

And that due reward be paid to this my last will and Testament. I do

appoint my friend Abraham Wotring with my son David Stemple to have the

oversight thereof and to see that it be well fulfilled and executed.

This being Self Satisfied and Determined I have made and I do pronounce

this to be my last will and Testament. This third day of March in the

year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety four. In witness

whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal.

Margaret (Boyles) Stemple's will is recorded in Will Book No.1, page

298 -Monongalia County Courthouse, Morgantown, WV.

WILL OF MARGARET STEMPLE (from -Harry Slawter -Aurora);

"In the name of God Amen, I Margaret Stemple, having this day my common

senses and memory, doth make this my last will and testament. My will

and desire is after my decease, my body to be buried in a Christian like

and decent manner as my children and neighbors think proper and my will

and desire is, after my burial and funeral expenses and just debts are

paid that my Estate be equally divided among all my children except my

daughter Barbary, who I exclude from any part of my estate and my will

is that there shall he Ten pounds kept and paid to my son John Stemple

out of my Son Martin Stemples part or share of my said estate and the

same sum to be kept and paid to my son John out of my son David Stemples

part or share of said estate, for not complying with their promise they

made to raise each a colt for the said John Stemple and it is my will

and desire that five pounds out of my Daughter Eaves part or share of my

said estate be

equally divided among my children, David, Martin, John, Christeenah,

Catherine, Rosannah, Sussannah, Eve, and Dolly, for a saddle that said

Eve had and my will is that my clothes be equally divided among my

daughters. Eve. Christeenah. Catherine, Rosannah, Susannah, and Dolly

and my will and desire is that my son John Stemple and my son-in-law

Jacob Redinhour have the overseeing and settling of my Estate of my

estate according to my will and desire as above stated.

George married Josie Shock in Calhoun County April 3, 1897. Josie, a daughter of Lemuel and Mary (Bourn) Shock, was born January 1, 1877.
