The Abraham Staats line is easily confused since three men named

Abraham Staats took the oath of Allegiance in New Castle County DE in

1778.

1.ABRAHAM STAATS

Abraham Staats was born in New Castle County DE in 1750 and died

in present day Jackson County WV in 1826. He married Anna King in DE

about 1772. Anna, a daughter of Francis and Christian King, was born

in DE about 1755 and died in present day Jackson County WV in 1811.

By 1780, Abraham and Anna were in western Virginia and Abraham

signed a Tygart Valley petition there November 7, 1780. About 1800,

they removed to present day Jackson county WV.

After Anna died Abram married Sarah Tilgman in Gallia County OH

December 12, 1812.

Abraham's last will was written July 1, 1826 and was presented to

the Mason County VA (WV) court for probate September 4, 1826.

Cornelius Staats, a son of Abraham and Anna (King) Staats, was

born in 1790 and died in present day Jackson County WV about 1816. He

married Anna Carney September 26, 1812. Anna, a daughter of Thomas

and Mary "Polly" (Parsons) Carney, was born in 1794.

Cornelius served in the War of 1812. After Cornelius died, Anna

married William R. Randolph. Anna then married Enoch C. Thomas about

1820.

John Staats, a son of Abraham and Sarah (Tilgman) Staats, was born

in 1818 and died in 1860. He married Margaret Carney in Roane County

November 28, 1837. Margaret, a daughter of Thomas and Mary "Polly"

(Parsons) Carney, was born in 1820 and died in 1881.

14.ISAAC STAATS 8.CORNELIUS STAATS 1.ABRAHAM STAATS

Isaac Staats, a son of Cornelius and Anna (Carney) Staats, was

born in present day Jackson County WV about 1813 and died there April

18, 1890. He married Anna "Liza" Tolley August 8, 1833. Anna, a

daughter of William and Elizabeth (Hill) Tolley, was born about 1813

and died about 1870. Isaac married Mariah Brickles February 25, 1877.

Isaac served the Union in the Civil War in the 141st Militia of

State Troops, enlisting July 23, 1863 and was discharged May 20, 1865.
