1.EDWARD SIZEMORE

 

    Edward Sizemore was born in NC, probably about 1725 and died in NC

about 1780.

    Edward has long been believed to have been a Cherokee Indian, but

several researchers disagree and cite the fact that although about

2,000 Sizemore descendants have filed claims for Government

compensation for lost Cherokee land, not a single claim has been

allowed.  Ron Blevins and Frank Sizemore believe that the first Indian

in the family was the wife of Edward Sizemore and that her name was

Aruna Hart.

     Hiram Sizemore was born in Wilkes County NC in 1811 and died in

Clay County WV in 1879.  He first married Elizabeth Jenkins. The family

moved to Ashe County NC and then to Nicholas County VA (WV).  Elizabeth

(Jenkins) Sizemore died during the trip to Nicholas County and

traditional history says she fell off a steamboat and drowned in the

Kanawha River near the present Belle Dupont plant.

    Hiram married Frances Morton in 1862. Frances, a daughter of

Thomas T. and Milly (Young) Morton, was born in May 1841.

James Amos Harmon, was born June 12, 1875 and died October 22, 1963.

    John married Thelma Davis in Clay County November 6, 1926. Thelma, a daughter of Edward and Mary Ann (Williams) Davis, was born in Clay County September 30, 1908 and died there June 5, 1998. Thelma married Virgil Fleming Cruikshank after John died.

Edward married Luana Frances Stewart. Luana, a daughter of Clifford and Maudie Gay (Graham) Stewart, was born in Clay County WV October 4, 1944.

      Edward died with Arthur Coulter during a 19 Special Forces West parachute jump in the West Virginia Army National Guard. They collided and their parachutes tangled.
