1.PETER SHIELDS
Peter Shields
was born in England in 1755 and died in Braxton
County VA (WV) in October 1832. He came to America as a British
soldier during the American Revolution, and served under
General
Burgoyne. When Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga on
October 17, 1777,
Peter deserted the British and served in the Continental
Army.
In return for his military service, Peter was
granted 70 acres of
land in Hardy County VA (WV) April 2, 1783. He married Elizabeth
Singleton in Hardy County about 1783 and they lived there
until they
moved to present day Braxton County WV in 1807.
Elizabeth died in Braxton County about 1837.
