1.GEORGE MOLLOHAN

George Mollohan was born in Ireland about 1750 and died in Nicholas County VA (WV) about 1815. George married Nancy Agnes Jones in 1774. Nancy was born in Ireland about 1754. In 1786, the family moved from Bath County Va to Greenbrier County VA. In 1793, George received a land grant on Sinking Creek in Greenbrier County. George appeared on the Greenbrier County tax list between 1783 and 1786. He appeared on the 1809 and 1810 Kanawha County tax lists. They later lived on Birch River.

It was about 1815 that George decided to visit his Son, George, near Sutton. In his attempt to cross the mountains on horseback he disappeared. When he didn't show up at his sons, a search party was sent to look for him. He was never found, but his coat, hat and gloves were found hanging on a tree.

4.JAMES MOLLOHAN 1.GEORGE MOLLOHAN

James Mollohan, a son of George and Nancy Agnes (Jones)

Mollohan, was born January 11, 1787. He married Martha Dodrill. Martha,

a daughter of William and Rebecca (Lewis) [Daugherty] Dodrill, was

born about 1791.

James was born in Greenbrier County VA and after his marriage, he

and Martha settled near her parent's place on Birch River, Kanawha

County VA. They later moved to Little Kanawha River in Braxton County

and later moved to Webster Co. and finally settled on land they had

received via a land grant in 1819. This was near Caress, W.Va. Here

they remained, raising a family. Both are buried in a family plot, on

the farm, near the orchard.

Margaret Mollohan, a daughter of George and Nancy Agnes (Jones)

Mollohan was born in 1790 and died in 1876. She married Jacob

Coger in Nicholas County, VA (WV) March 21, 1819. Jacob Coger, a

son of Peter and Mary (McElwain) Coger, was born in Botetourt County,

Virginia about 1790 and died in 1881. He served in the War of 1812.

In 1836, Jacob and Margaret moved to the Little Kanawha River in

Lewis County Virginia (WV), where they spent the rest of their

lives.

Charles Mollohan, a son of James and Martha (Dodrill) Mollohan,

was born in Nicholas County VA November 11, 1810 and died in Dickinson

County KS August 15, 1890. He married Elizabeth Robinson. Their

marriage bond was dated February 15, 1833. Elizabeth was born in VA

about 1811.

Charles and Elizabeth settled on land granted to them by Lord

Fairfax. These lands were located on the waters of Holly Creek, Webster

County WV.

Charles received his license to preach on August 11, 1849. At the

second annual session of the Methodist Episcopal Conference at

Clarksburg, VA October 10, 1849, Charles was recommended for Deacons

Orders and he became one of the most powerful preachers and laymen the

Methodist Conference ever had. It was by his shrewdness and influence

that held the church and missions together.

Charles moved to Gallipolis, OH in 1856 and stayed there until

1859/60, when he located on large tract of land in Dickinson County KS.

He settled on it in 1861.

MOLLOHAN

George Dodrill Mollohan, a son of James and Martha (Dodrill)

Mollohan, was born December 12, 1815 and died March 16, 1895. He

married Diana Bickel April 15, 1835. Diane, a daughter of George

and Mary Bickel, was born October 29, 1815 and died January 30, 1854.

George married Permilia (Alkire) Mollohan July 15, 1855. Permilia,

a daughter of David and Rachel Alkire, was born about 1819 and was the

widow of George G. Mollohan. The couple divorced.

George married Susan (Foster) Weihart January 12, 1871. Susan

was born in 1832 and died November 30, 1913.

George was sympathetic to the North during the Civil War, and it

while he and some troops, were eating at a friends home near Sutton, WV

the Tuning Brothers, a Confederate guerrilla group and some Confederate

troops captured them. Although George was not a member of the Northern

Troops, he was taken prisoner also. After being taken, the troops,

along with Capt. Hyer, their commander, were led on a march to Richmond,

Va. It was during this march, that George almost lost his life. In

passing through Webster County they had to cross the a river. Since

most of the men managed to escape, and some were recaptured, including

George, their hands were tied behind their backs, making walking

difficult. When crossing the rivers, George and the rest of the

prisoners were denied the pleasure of drinking. One of the captors

pleaded with the Tunings to let them drink, but his pleas were

denied. It is not known how long George and his companions remained in

prison, before they were released and sent home.

time of his death.

He married Malinda Lough October 28, 1848. Malinda, a daughter of

Adam and Mary (Skidmore) Lough, was born March 4, 1825 and died February

22, 1908. Malinda married Vincent Roby some time after William died.

serving in the Union Army in the Civil War. He married Susan Minerva

Propst July 9, 1953. Susan, a daughter of Henry and Frances Propst, was

born in Highland County VA about 1834.

Susan later married Samuel Kerr and moved to IL and then to KS.

4, 1918.

Wesley was admitted to the Bar in Gallipolis, OH. Along with James

Henry Nash, son of the Judge, he came to Charleston, WV and opened a law

practice. James Nash died ten years later, and Wesley continued the

practice alone. He was recognized as the foremost land lawyers in the

State of W.Va. His practice spanned some fifty years and extended

throughout the State and Federal Supreme Courts.

Mollohan, was born November 14, 1836 and died October 17, 1899. He

married Mary A. Strong June 28, 1860. Mary was born June 18, 1844

and died September 11, 1932.

Bernard lived on Leatherwood Creek in Webster County VA later

moving to Webster Springs. He was appointed postmaster and also

county surveyor. He was elected surveyor many times and continued in

this capacity for as long as he could carry a compass.He was assigned

the task of surveying the whole county of Webster, and with the help of

three assistants, he completed the job in just one year.

Elvira, a daughter of Oliver and Jane (Davis) Keener, was born March

10, 1847 and died May 18, 1925.

Harrison served the Union in the Civil War. He enlisted in Co F

10th W.Va. Volunteer Infantry January 6, 1862 and was discharged May 30,

1865. He was taken prisoner in Braxton County June 6, 1863 and was

exchanged at City point VA and rejoined the regiment June 21, 1863. He

was wounded at Cedar Creek, VA October 13, 1864 and at Hatchers Run, VA

on February 7, 1865.

County WV 1989", page 129, states that Annis had four out of wedlock

children with Isabella Burkhammer. Isabella, a daughter of George and

Mary (Brooks) Burkhammer, was born in 1857 and died in 1887. She

married Alexander West January 28, 1883.

He married Sarah Nancy (Burnside) Tanner April 15, 1882. Sarah was

a daughter of Billie Burnside and the widow of ------ Tanner. Sarah

must have died in 1900. She is not listed with Annis in the 1900 Clay

County WV census.

He married Nancy Ellison May 3, 1907.
