John
McWilliams, a son of John McWilliams, was born in Ireland
in 1751 and died in Washington County PA October 8,
1837. He came
to America with his family in 1763. By 1785, the family
had moved to
Washington County PA.
Their farm, "Lions Bush" was granted on a VA
certificate and was surveyed September 19, 1785.
John married
Jane Taylor, a daughter of Robert Taylor.

1.JOHN MCWILLIAMS
William
McWilliams, a son of John McWilliams, was born in County
Down Ireland and died in Knox County, OH April 21, 1840.
He married
Agnes Boggs before 1784.
Agnes, a daughter of William and Jane
(Stein) Boggs, was born February 17, 1752 and died in
Washington
County PA before 1793.
William served
the Colonies in the American Revolution in the 13th
VA Regiment and in the 8th PA Regiment. A hearing was held in Knox
County September 25, 1832 to consider William's
application for a
veteran's pension.
His pension was granted.
William married
Mary Merritt in Washington County PA March 5,
1793. Mary was
born in PA in 1772 and died in Knox County June 29,
1851.
The family
moved from Washington County PA to Belmont County OH in
1800 and moved to Knox County OH about 1824.
William's will
is dated December 5, 1832 and is recorded in Will
Book A in the Knox County court house.
Will of William McWilliams:
"I,
William McWilliams of the County of Knox and State of Ohio do
make and publish this my last will and testament in
manner and for
following that is to say:
First it is my
will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts
be fully paid.
Second I give
devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary
McWilliams in lieu of her dower all the town lot I own in
the town of
Martinsburgh in said county of Knox and all the livestock
horses
cattle sheep had by me now or hereafter owned and kept
thereon also
all the household furniture and other items of property
not
particularly named or otherwise disposed of in this will.
Third I give
and devise to my oldest daughter Jane Ritchey the sum
of twenty five dollars.
Fourth I give
and devise to my daughter Phebe Elliot the sum of
seventy five dollars.
Fifth I give
and devise to my son Moses the plantation on which I
now reside in Range 11 Township 5 and section 13 in the
said county of
Knox estimated to contain 156 acres. He the said Moses however paying
or cause to be paid the just debts and giving my beloved
wife Mary or
aforesaid all needful and necessary maintenance whether
in sickness of
in death during her natural life time and paying or
causing to be paid
the sums bequeathed to my two daughters Jane and Phebe as
aforesaid to
him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Sixth I give
and devise and bequeath to my granddaughter Mary
McWilliams the sum of two hundred and sixteen dollars and
sixty six
cents to be paid on the 17 day of April A.D. 1835 with
interest from
the date of this will.
Seventh I give
and devise and bequeath to my granddaughter Jane
McWilliams the sum of two hundred and sixteen dollars and
sixty six
cents to be paid on the 17 day of April A.D. 1836 with
interest from
the date of this will.
Eighth I give
and devise and bequeath to my grandson Robert
McWilliams the sum of two hundred and sixteen dollars and
sixty six
cents to be paid when said Robert is or May arrive at the
age of
twenty one years with interest until the 17th of April
A.D. 1837 from
the date of this will provided however that the expenses
accumulate in
Recevery and paying over the last named legacies to the
said legatees
be kept out of the said sums equally.
And lastly I
hereby constitute and appoint my said wife Mary
McWilliams and my son John McWilliams to be Executors of
this my last
will and testament and annulling all former wills by me
made and
ratifying and confirming this and no other be my lat will
and
testament. In
testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
this fifth day of December in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight
hundred and thirty two."

Jane McWilliams,
a daughter of William and Agnes (Boggs)
McWilliams, was born in Washington County PA November 22,
1784 and
died in Logan County January 2, 1860. She married Charles Ritchey in
Belmont County OH February 10, 1806. Charles, a son of Andrew and Ann
(Campbell) Ritchey, was born in York County PA about 1780
and died in
Logan County OH in 1839.
His will is dated October 13, 1839 and was
probated in Logan County November 20, 1839. (Logan County
Will Book C,
page 106.)
The family
lived in Harrison County OH until 1829.
They moved to
Washington County PA and then moved to Logan County OH by
April 1836.

Belmont County OH August 16, 1814. Martha, a daughter of Robert and
Jane (Cassell) Hammond, was born in Washington County PA
July 8, 1795
and died in White County IN August 9, 1869.
Martha married
Thomas S. Scroggs in 1831. Thomas died
in Green
County OH March 3, 1833 and Martha married Thomas Ginn in
Green County
OH October 23, 1848.

was born June
14, 1828 and died in White County IN January 17, 1870.
Robert married
Elizabeth McCall in White County September 5, 1871.
Elizabeth, a daughter of James and Mary (Graham) McCall,
was born
November 20, 1832 and died August 15, 1901.
Robert
McWilliams bought two tracts of land, totaling 160 acres,
in White County IN March 5, 1847. The family moved there from Green
County in 1852.
