1.CHRISTIAN MERKEL

Christian Merkel was born in Hassloch/Pfalz, Germany July 19, 1678

and died in Berks County PA in 1766. He married Catherina Bender in

Germany in 1711.

Christian sold his house in Lambschien, Germany to Dietrich Roth

April 19, 1719. He and his family arrived in Philadelphia, aboard the

"Phoenix" in August 1719.

Christian's second wife was Eva Kelchner.

His will was dated April 25, 1749 and was probated in Philadelphia

County PA May 22, 1766.

was born at Moslem Springs, PA July 27, 1729 and died February 17,

1779. He married Anna Christina Hill December 18, 1750.

Jacob Markle, a son of Abraham and Hannah Markle, was born in

Armstrong County PA in October 1860 and died in 1947 in Clay County, WV.

He married Mary Ellen Paxton May 24, 1884. Ellen, a daughter of William

Patterson and Priscilla (Samples) Paxton, was born in Clay County WV

October 13, 1866 and died there May 19, 1944.

Jacob A. Markle, a son of Daniel W. and Margaret (Grose) Markle, was

born in September 1881 and died in Clay County WV in 1969. He married

Florida Holcomb May 29, 1910. He married Betha (Graham) Dawson December

8, 1937. Bertha, a daughter of Eddie and Christine (Cook) Graham, was

born in 1890 and died in 1974. She first married Solomon "Saul" Dawson.

Note: The 1900 Clay County WV census gives Jacob's birth as

September 1882. His age given at his marriage in 1910 and 1937 indicates

a birth year of 1885 and his grave marker has 1881. His age is given as

38 in the 1920 Clay County census, indicating a birth year of 1881 or

1882, depending on when the census was taken.
