    Jonathan Hutton, a son of Colonel Moses Hutton, was born in the

South Branch Valley of the Potomac in VA June 3, 1769, and married Mary

Troutwine in May 1790. They moved the Tygarts Valley, settling at became

Huttonsville, in Randolph county.

    Moses Hutton, a son of Jonathan and Mary (Troutwine) Hutton, was

born August 13, 1795. He married Mary Haigler. Mary was a daughter of

Jacob and Christina (Harper Haigler.

11.ELIZABETH HUTTON  4.MOSES HUTTON   2.JONATHAN HUTTON   1.MOSES HUTTON

 

    Elizabeth Hutton, a daughter of Moses and Mary (Haigler) Hutton, was

born in Randolph County VA (WV) July 23, 1836. She married Eli Baxter

Butcher in Randolph County October 28, 1852. Eli, a son of Eli and

Margaret (Hart) Butcher, was born February 1, 1826 and died in Randolph

County VA (WV) March 25, 1862.

    About the time he was married, he bought out his father and became a

very prosperous merchant and a popular man of high standing. He was

apparently involved in Confederate activities, culminating in his death

and the destruction of his property by Federal forces. Miller and

Maxwell's "The History of West Virginia and Her People" says, "The war

between the states resulted in the loss of his store and a large amount

of property, as well as the destruction by fire, after his death, of his

large and valuable buildings, including his dwelling house, store, barns

etc., by order of a Federal officer, setting the widow and her four

infant children in the public road.
