Don Norman

1.LEVI HEWITT

Levi Hewitt was born in Hampshire County NJ about 1810. He

married Miranda Messenger. Miaranda, a daughter of Roswell and Sarah

(Hewitt) Messenger, was born in Monongalia County VA (WV) about 1814 and

died in Gilmer County VA between 1860 and 1870. The family apparently

moved from Preston County VA (WV) to Gilmer County

VA (WV) about 1844.

Levi married Mary J. (Weaver) [Fitzpatrick] {Wiant} in Gilmer County

WV Janaury 4, 1871. Mary was born in Lewis County VA about 1826. She had

married a widower, David Fitzpatrick, in Gilmer County WV October 24,

1867. David, a son of Samuel and Ann Sparks (Witte) Fitzpatrick, was

born in Augusta County VA in 1820 and died in Gilmer County WV about

1868. He had married Margaret Powers January 11, 1827. Margaret was born

in Augusta County about 1806 and died before 1867.

Nicholas Carpenter Wiant was born in Lewis County VA about 1818

and died in Gilmer County WV after 1863. He married Mary Weaver about

1842.

2.JOSEPH N. HEWITT 1.LEVI HEWITT

Joseph N. Hewitt, a son of Levi and Miranda (Messenger) Hewitt, was

born in Preston County VA (WV) March 7, 1835 and died in Gilmer County

WV about 1878. He married Mahala Norman in Gilmer County May 1, 1856.

Mahala, a daughter of Felix and Mary (Greenleaves) Norman, was born in

Lewis County VA (WV) May 27, 1841 and died April 21, 1923.

Mahala married Isaac B. Cox September 6, 1880. Isaac, a son of

Isaac Jr. and Nancy (Coburn) Cox, was born in Green County OH in 1826

and died in Calhoun County WV in 1892. He married Pricey Duncan.

Pricey was born in KY in 1832 and died in Calhoun County in 1875.

The result of this last marriage was a very complex extended family.

was born in Preston County Va (WV) in February 1838. He married Nancy

Ellen White. Nancy , a daughter of George and Margaret White, was born

in Va in April 1848.

Angeline Hewitt, a daughter of Levi and Miranda (Messenger) Hewitt,

was born in Preston County VA (WV) about 1842. She married John Bush in

Gilmer County WV Janaury 11, 1866. John, a son of Henry Fisher and

Matilda (Flesher) Bush, was born in Gilmer County VA about 1844 and died

before 1870. Angeline is listed in the Levi Hewitt household in the 1870

Gilmer County WV census.

Known child of John and Angeline (Hewitt) Bush.

8.MARGARET HEWITT 1.LEVI HEWITT

Margaret Hewitt, a daughter of Levi and Maranada (Messenger) Hewitt,

was born about 1848 and died in Gilmer County WV about 1874. She married

John H. Floyd in Gilmer County WV September 1, 1869. John, a son of

Thomas R. and Martha (Yerkey) Floyd, was born in 1849 and died in 1918.

John married Virginia Killingsworth in Gilmer County December 29,

1875. Virginia, a daughter of Ammon and Mary (Mowry) Killingsworth, was

born in VA about 1853.

Emily M. Hewitt, a daughter of Levi and Miranda (Messenger)

Hewitt, was born in VA about 1851. She married George W. White in Gilmer

County WV December 31, 1871. George, a son of George and Margaret

(Nicholas) White, was born in VA about 1853.

Daniel William Hewitt, a son of Joseph N. and Mahala (Norman)

Hewitt, was born in VA in 1858 and died in Joplin, MO in June 15, 1939.

He is buried in Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, MO.

Daniel married Henrietta Rhoades in Gilmer County WV August 1, 1880.

Henrietta, a daughter of George Washington and Rebecca (Ford) Rhoades,

was born in Gilmer County November 4, 1862 and died in Kansas City MO

March 23, 1943. She is buried in Antioch Cemetery in Overland Pak, KS.

Daniel moved to Harrisonville, MO in 1884. His wife and children

joined him there in 1889.

Fatima (Fisher) Murphy, was born August 7, 1857. After Sarah died, he

married Jamima Walters.
