    Christian Eakle was born in Maryland, probably about 1770.

He moved to Pendleton County VA and died there in 1841. He married Jane ----.

2.GEORGE EAKLE     1.CHRISTIAN EAKLE

 

    George Eakle, a son of Christian and Jane Eakle, was born in Pendleton

County VA (WV) in August 1800 and died March 14, 1865.  He married Susan Flesher in 1827.

    In 1848, the family moved to Hacker's Valley in Lewis County Va (WV).  George and his son Henry were arrested May 27, 1864 by Federal authorities for "harboring the enemy" and lodged in a Union prison camp where they both died.

7.JOHN ELDRIDGE EAKLE     2.GEORGE EAKLE     1.CHRISTIAN EAKLE

 

    John Eldridge Eakle, a son of George and Susan (Flesher) Eakle, was born in VA March 11, 1839 and died in Braxton County WV April 14, 1925.

    John enlisted in Co B 46th Battalion VA Cavalry (CSA) on June 1, 1863.  He later served in the 26th Regiment VA Cavalry (CSA). He was listed as a prisoner of war and was paroled at Staunton VA March 25, 1865.

    John married Nancy Elizabeth Bender in Webster County WV in November 1868.  Nancy, a daughter of Isaac and Eliza (Williams) Bender, was born about 1847 and died in Braxton County WV November 16, 1926.

    Branty Cletus Eakle, a son of John Eldridge and Nancy Elizabeth (Bender) Eakle, was born December 29, 1870 and died in Braxton County WV June 30, 1965.

    Branty attended the Shenandoah Institute in Dayton, VA and was issued Teaching certificate #1 in Braxton County WV.  He taught for several years and read law with Burk Hall of Sutton, WV.

    After passing the bar examination, Branty went to the town of Clay on March 21, 1895.  He was issued Teaching certificate #1 in Clay County and taught for a year before beginning his law practice.

    He married Mary Blanch Lough October 20, 1897.  Blanch was a daughter of Anderson Newman and Blanch Lough.  She died in Braxton County WV November 3, 1854.

    Dana Cletus Eakle, a son of Branty Cletus and Mary Blanch (Lough) Eakle, was born in Clay County WV December 12, 1909.  He earned a Bachelors degree from Glenville State Teachers College in 1933 and completed a Law course at the University of Richmond in 1936.

    He married Flora Kathryn Spiegle at Trinity VA September 12, 1936.  Flora, a daughter of William George and Cordie Anne (Layman) Spiegle, was born in 1907 and died in Kanawha County WV December 13, 1998.

    Dana passed the WV Bar Examination March 12, 1937 and entered the practice of law.  He was drafted into the Army December 16, 1942 and served in the Judge Advocate Section in Hawaii.  He was discharged February 2, 1946.

    Branty Cletus Eakle II, a son Dana Cletus and Flora Kathryn (Spiegle) Eakle, was born in Clay County WV July 20, 1938 and died in Kanwha County WV September 29, 2006. He married Judith Benton White September 5, 1962.
