2.ROBERT CRAWFORD 1.WILLIAM CRAWFORD

Robert Crawford, a son of William and Margaret (Henderson) Crawford,

was born in Bath County VA October 31, 1773 and died in Lewis County VA

(WV) September 25, 1856. He married Sarah Stephenson in Bath county in

August 1804. Sarah, a daughter of James and Rachel (Davis) Stephenson,

was probably born March 6, 1774 and died February 19, 1853 in Lewis

County.

Robert bought land in Collins Settlement in 1812, four years before

Lewis County was established, and built his house at the mouth of Cap

Run. Four generations of Crawfords had lived in that house when it was

sold about 1907, and a part of the property remained in the family hands

until it was taken for the Stonewall Jackson Dam in the 1980s.

Robert had served as a deputy sheriff in his native Bath County,

and in Lewis he became a member of the school board and was a charter

member of one of the first Methodist churches in the region.

born in VA about 1806 and died in Lewis County VA about 1858. He married

Nancy Conrad. Nancy, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Currence) Conrad,

was born in VA April 8, 1815 and died in Lewis County May 30, 1849.

John married Mary Wilson. Mary was born in VA about 1808.

Obadiah Crawford, a son of Robert and Sarah (Stephenson) Crawford,

was born in VA about 1807 and died in Upshur County WV after 1870. He

married Ann Wyant in Albemarle County VA June 16, 1825. Ann, a daughter

of Peter and Mary (Cooper) Wyant, was born in VA about 1808 and died

after 1870.

The family came to Lewis County VA from Rockingham County VA about

1847. By 1860, they were listed in the Upshur County VA (WV) census.

was born in VA about 1808 and died about 1848. He married Jemima Conrad

about 1840. Jemima, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Currence) Conrad,

was born in Braxton County VA (WV) July 28, 1818.

Jemima was living with her father at the time of the 1850 Braxton

County VA (WV) census. Jemima married Robert Fararr about 1851.

John Adam Crawford, a son of Obadiah and Ann (Wyant) Crawford, was

born in Rockingham County VA January 16, 1836 and died September 15,

1920 at his in Upshur County WV. John married Mary Parthena McNemar in

Lewis County, WV February 11, 1869. Mary, a daughter of Isaac B. and

Elizabeth (Curtis) McNemar Mary was born December 28, 1846 in Lewis

County and died September 27, 1934.

John came from Rockingham County to Lewis County in 1847.

John served the Union in the Civil War. He enlisted in June 1861 in

Company E, Third W.Va. Volunteer Infantry and was discharged

February 13, 1863 for disability. In March 1864, he enlisted in Company

I, Third W.Va. Cavalry, and served until the end of the war. John was

injured on March 2, 1865 at Waynesboro when his horse fell; he broke his

collarbone and had hurt his neck badly. At the Battle of Five Forks.

near Richmond, VA, John was wounded by a minie ball in his right hip. He

was permanently disabled. When John died, he still had the bullet in his

body.

John was a shoemaker by trade and a farmer.
