The following paragraph appears as a footnote in Tanguay.

'Marie sous le mon de Brechevin; souche des familles Bergevin dit Langevin; ancetre de Mgr. Langevin, premier eveque de Rimouski, et de l'Honarable Hector Louis Langeven, C.B. Commandeur de l'Ordre de St. Gregoire, et Ministre des Travaux Publics'

Roughly translated this appears to be saying that Mathurin Bergevin also known as Langevin, was the ancestor of the first Bishop of Rimouski and of several other VIP's in Quebec history.2

Birth GenDex user Linda Lee Hole gives his residence and possibly birth as St. Jacques, Angers, France. Angers is a city in the MaineAnjou region of France.3

Birth circa 1609 Mathurin was born circa 1609 at Anjou, France. He may not have been born in Anjou but at least he came to New France from there. He was known as Langevin in France and Bergevin in Canada.4

Marriage circa May 1634 Mathurin Bergevin married **Marie Tessier circa May 1634. This marriage is not dated, however it was between other acts dated 7 April 1634 and 3 July 1634. Tho' Hole gives the date as 3 July 1634 in St. Jacques parish of the bishopic of Angus. Could that be Anjou? I believe this is susposed to read Angers in the region of Anjou.2,5

The ancient tribes galliqueses were the first occupants of Normandy, in France. The prestigious name of Langevin family would take its origins in this country. To this same time, Henri III, England married Aliénor of Aquitaine, acquéra of makes it even earths that possessed this last. To the XIIIe century, Philippe August of France, didn't take possession of the Normandy. It was to the basis of all major conflicts that opposed France in England in the years that followed. In 1259, Henri III finally conceded his rights on the territory in question.

The Langevin patronyme was met in Normandy where they possessed some extensive properties. To that time family florissait in Normandy as one of the big families of this region.
