All information regarding the birth of Joseph, his wife Päméla Jourdain, other than actual baptismal records are in error. Joseph was Born and Baptized in La Visitation parish, Champlain, Quebec Canada. In a letter to Pomala Morin Black, Pomala Orda Shoemaker, granddaughter of this Joseph, says that he was born in France. On the 1900 U.S. census of son Saul, he claims that his father was born in France, and the Certified Death Certificate of son Saul states that his father was born in France, but since this information was given by W. G. Morin it is suspected the information should read 'New France'.

Joseph's parents' marriage is recorded as Marriage #4 of 1815 in La Visitation Parish of Champlain Parish, QC.   On the 1851 Canadian census he says that he was born in Champlain, Canada; and  will be 36 on his next birthday. His parents marriage is recorded as Marriage #4 of 1815 in La Visitation Parish of Champlain Parish, QC. On the 1861 census he claims that he will be 44 on his next birthday.3,4,5,6,7

Saul is listed as being 2 years old. There is a younger child, Joseph, whose age is given as 1 year, but there is NO birth registration for this child, so I suspect that it is an error in the census. Can not read or write, tho' POMALA can. Owns 2 cochons that is, pigs, valued at $4.00, appears to live about 1/4 dup. from his farm, or else he owns land of that much area. The census was signed off in January and June of 1861, so census taken sometime in that time frame. All ages are at the NEXT birthday. He is a Navigateaur, that is a Boatman.11

Occupation
His occupation on some of the census' is Navigateur, a fisherman and sometime a farmer. He is recorded as a "cultivateur", that is a farmer, on the birth record of his son Louis in 1847.9

Joseph Saul and Poméla Morin
There is no date on this photo of Saul, his father Joseph and Mother Poméla but since Saul appears to be about 6 or 7 years old  but less than 10, we are going to guess that it was taken about 1866.

1881 On the 1881 Canadian census there are several possibilities that could be Joseph. The best bet seems to be in Ste Anne Parish, Montreal, Quebec. page 66 family #316. This Joseph is 65, born in Quebec and is widowed. He is living with a 30 year old Joseph Morin who we can not identify. No occupation is given. Need to find all of his children on this census to be sure that he is not living with one of them.13

It is likely that he moved to Montréal some time before 1879.  It is believe that the second wife of Joseph was Henriette Hamlin or Hamelin, the widow of Louis Beaudoin.  There is a parish record for this marriage in St. Brigide parish in Montéal on 10 November 1879.

Some bits of information about Joseph and his family:

This man had a second wife, who SAUL knew and liked very much. This second wife could be "EVA" per CHARLENE in Riverside, CA. A grandson of JOSEPH became a priest. In some of the material supplied by Pomala Orda Morin Shoemaker she indicates that most of the children of Joseph and Pamela were born in FRANCE, but since we know that SAUL was born in Canada. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. Most likely "NEW" FRANCE. Joseph was a FISHERMAN. 15,4,16

This second wife may have been Henrietta Hamlin, widow of  Louis Beaudion. 17

School
Joseph Antoine Morin could read and write on one census. Could not read or write on another census.
