The Harrisons Of The Civil War
The list of Civil War veterans of the HARRISON family that follows is composed of both Union and Confederate Solders.
- ARCHIBALD IRWIN HARRISON (birth date unknown, died December 1870):
U.S.A. A first lieutenant adjutant in the 8th Indiana Infantry,
he was commissioned 27 April 1861 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel 12
September 1861.
- ARCHIBALD T. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; colonel
in the 30th Virginia Infantry.
- BENJAMIN HARRISON (birth date unknown, died 13 March 1901): U.S.A.
A second Lieutenant in the 70th Indiana Infantry, he was commissioned
on 14 July 1862 and was promoted to captain on 22 July 1862. He was made colonel
on 7 August 1862 and, for gallantry in command of his brigade, brevet brigadier
general of volunteers ***** on 23 January 1865,. He received his honorable
discharge on 8 June 1865 and later became president of the United States on
4 March 1889.
- CARTER H. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A. major
in the 11th Virginia Infantry.
FRANCIS E. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; lieutenant
colonel, Then colonel in the 1st South Carolina Rifles.
- GEORGE H. HARRISON (born 1842, death date unknown): U.S.A. A seaman
in the United States Navy, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor
for his gallantry under fire while serving as a loader of the 11-inch pivot
gun on board the U.S.S. KEARSARGE during its attack on the ALABAMA off Cherbourg,
France on 19 June 1864.
- GEORGE P. HARRISON, JR. (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A. brigadier
general In the 32nd Georgia Infantry.
- GEORGE WOODROW HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): U.S.A. A
captain And assistant quartermaster of volunteers, he was commissioned on
14 Nov. 1861. He was made brevet major of volunteers 13 March 1865, and lieutenant
colonel of volunteers 15 December 1865.
- ISAAC HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; lieutenant
colonel in the 15th Louisiana Cavalry and colonel in the 3rd
Louisiana Cavalry.
- ISHAM HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; colonel in
the 6th Mississippi Infantry.
***** volunteers: state or local militias serving as a reserve to the regular army. Officers and men of experience often were released from front-line duties to command and train these reserve units.

- JAMES B. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): U.S.A.; major in the 12th Ohio Cavalry.
- JAMES E. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; brigadier general in the 1st Texas Infantry.
- JAMES F. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): U.S.A.; colonel in the 11th Ohio Infantry.
- JOHN J. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; major in the 11th South Carolina Infantry.
- JOHN THOMAS HARRISON (birth date unknown, died 20 February 1895): U.S.A. An assistant surgeon of volunteers, he was commissioned on 3 December 1864 and was made brevet captain of volunteers on 29 September 1865 for faithful and meritorious service during the war. He received an honorable discharge on 9 October 1865.
- JULIEN HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown) C.S.A.; colonel in the 6th Virginia Cavalry.
- LLOYD M. HARRISON (birth date unknown, died 15 October 1880): U.S.A. A second lieutenant in the 5th United States Artillery, he was commissioned on 14 May 1861 and was promoted to first lieutenant on 16 June 1863.
- MARCUS LARUE HARRISON (birth date unknown, died 27 October 1890): U.S.A. A captain who was commissioned 10 July 1862, he was promoted to colonel on 7 August 1862 and was made brevet brigadier general of volunteers on 13 arch 1865 for gallant and meritorious service during the war. He received an honorable discharge on 23 August 1865.
- RICHARD HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; colonel and brigadier general in the 43rd Mississippi Infantry.
- ROBERT HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; major in the 2nd Florida Cavalry.
- ROBERT HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): U.S.A. A second lieutenant in the 15th Infantry, he was commissioned on 19 February 1863 and was promoted to first lieutenant on 11 June 1864. He was made brevet captain on 1 September 1864 for gallant and meritorious service during the Atlanta campaign.
- SAMUEL R. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; colonel in 1st Louisiana Volunteers.

- WILLIAM HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): C.S.A.; Colonel in the 6th Louisiana Volunteers.
- WILLIAM H. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): U.S.A. A second lieutenant in the 2nd United States Cavalry, he was commissioned on 30 November 1861 and was promoted to first lieutenant on 25th August 1862. He was made brevet captain on 6 May 1864 for gallant and meritorious service at the Battle of Todd's Tavern, Virginia; and brevet major on 19 September 1864 for gallant and meritorious service at the Battle of Winchester, Virginia.
- WILLIAM H. HARRISON (birth and death dates unknown): U.S.A. A third assistant engineer in the United States Navy, he was promoted to second assistant engineer 18 December 1862 and to first assistant engineer 30 January 1865.
