The family line of Kammacher was one of the lines that originated in Switzerland and immigrated to the Alsace-Lorraine area of Germany at the invitation of the government to help settle the area following the devastating Thirty Year War and the Bubonic Plague.

The Kammacher family resided several generations in Annweiler most likely, but they earlier immigrated from the Simmenthal area (Lenk, St. Stephan, Zweisimmon) of Bern Canton, Switzerland. They have a family crest and there is an established link between Annweiler and their Swiss origins. Catharina Margretha (Margaret) Kammacher (? - aft 1752) and Johann Wilhelm Rucklos (1709 - ) conceived Johann Ulrich Rucklos (January1737/38 - January 1799). Catharina had Ulrich illegitimately and never subsequently married. Catharina Margretha Kammacher was a native of Annweiler, Germany.

When the Jung family immigrated to America (where they subsequently changed their name to Young) and Frederick Young (December 23, 1830 - February 4, 1912) married Eva Pfeiffer (August 18, 1840 - February 18, 1919), the Pfeiffer name was added to our family tree. Unlike most of the other lines we have visited so far in this book such as the Brubach, Schneider, Wagner and Schaeffer, who had lived in close proximity to each other in Germany, and had many instances of cross-linkage between the families, the Pfeiffer line was largely a new strain of

Printed Book Page # 292

German ancestors in our family tree. The Pfeiffer family came from an area that is located about 60 air-miles north east of Rumbach. In fact, if you were to draw a straight line beginning at Rumbach and passing through Mannheim and extend that line 20 air-miles northeast beyond Mannheim, you would locate the three main villages from which most of our Pfeiffer ancestors came. These villages would be Lindenfels, Schlierbach and Glattbach; all in the county of Hessen, Germany. These three villages are also 30 miles almost due south from Frankfurt, Germany. We begin our visit of the Pfeiffer line with our oldest known ancestor, Ewald Pfeiffer (abt 1607 - October 30, 1698).

Ewald Pfeiffer (abt 1607 - October 30, 1698) Died in Cappenberg, Hessen, Germany

@ Hans Casper Pfeiffer (May 20, 1655 - ?)

Ewald Pfeiffer married Elisabetha (1650)?. Elisabetha and Ewald were the parents of Anna Pfeiffer born June 12, 1653 and Hans Casper Pfeiffer born May 20, 1655.

Hans Casper Pfeiffer (May 20, 1655 - ?) Born in Cappenberg, Hessen, Germany

father: Ewald Pfeiffer (abt 1607 - October 30, 1698)

mother: Elisabetha (1650)?

They were the parents of Johann Peter Pfeiffer (December 23, 1769 - ?). Since the Pfeiffer line was concentrated in and around the Lindenfels, Hessen, Germany area, it is highly likely that Johannes Pfeiffer and Anna Catharina Pfeiffer were related, albeit probably distantly. Our data are not sufficiently complete to determine if a relationship exists or not. If so, this would be a cross-link within the Pfeiffer family much like we have seen in the Brubach, Schneider, and Neuhart families.

Maria Barbara* Rauch (August 2, 1809 - October 6, 1899) was from a town close to Lindenfels but in a different parish. The marriage record said she had a child before the marriage. The researcher found the birth of the illegitimate child, Johann Peter Pfeiffer, in the records of her parish. The 1850 census of Monroe County, Ohio shows Henry Piper married to Barbara, both born in Germany; also a son Peter and George born in Germany. Heinrich (Henry) Pfeiffer married Maria Barbara* Rauch (August 2, 1809 - October 6, 1899) on March 12, 1831 in Lindenfels, Hessen, Germany. The couple eventually had 11 children, one of whom was Eva Pfeiffer (August 18, 1840 - February 18, 1919), the author's great great grandmother.

Eva Pfeiffer (August 18, 1840 - February 18, 1919) Born in Monroe County, Ohio and died in Lewisville, Ohio

Eva Pfeiffer (August 18, 1840 - February 18, 1919) was the second daughter and sixth child of the 11 children of Heinrich (Henry) Pfeiffer (1805 - 1887) and Maria Barbara Rauch (1809 - 1899). Eva married Frederick Young (1830 - 1912) and the couple had 8 children, one of whom was Louisa Young (December 22, 1863 - June 17, 1913). For the record, it should be noted that a Federal Census stated that Eva Pfeiffer (August 18, 1840 - February 18, 1919) was born in the state of Maryland. Other data indicate that she was born in Monroe County, Ohio. The Monroe County, Ohio birthplace appears to be correct.

The second Pfeiffer line begins with Hans Pfeiffer. As noted above under the Johannes Pfeiffer (December 22, 1732 - ?) entry, since the Pfeiffer line was concentrated in and around the Lindenfels, Hessen, Germany area, it is highly likely that these two branches of the Pfeiffer family were related, albeit probably distantly. Our data are not sufficiently complete to determine if one or

Printed Book Page # 295

more linkages exist between the two branches. If so, the marriage of Johannes Pfeiffer (December 22, 1732 - ?) to Anna Catharina Pfeiffer (1838 - ) on February 3, 1761 in Lindenfels, Hessen, Germany would be a cross-link within the Pfeiffer family much like we have seen in the Brubach, Schneider, and Neuhart families.
