The spelling here is either Loscher or Loescher. Variations on the spelling of this surname are Luscher, Lischer and Lesher in Switzerland. In the 1500s and 1600s there were many Caspar and Samuel Loschers in Niedermuhen, Untermuhen, Muhen and the nearby villages of Oberentfelden, Urkheim and Reinach in Switzerland. Doubtless born in Switzerland, Caspar, listed as a Calvinist (in Lutheran Oberotterbach 1686 census), may have immigrated in the 1660s to Germany with his parents or by himself, as a single man. It is assumed that he is the Caspar Loscher mentioned in the 1673 Erlengbach census who was married to Anna Ursula Hess. However, by 1686 he is a resident of Oberotterbach. In 1694 when Hans Jacob* Loscher is an unmarried sponsor in Rumbach, his father is deceased, and the mother also appears to have passed away. The three known children settled in Rumbach. One of the three children was Anna Marie* Loescher (1678 - 1744).

For nearly a century and a half, the Klein surname played a role in our ancestral tree. The earliest Klein was Hans* Klein (abt 1603 - 1672). Hans married Ottilia Neuhart (1605 - aft 1666) about 1629. We met Ottilia earlier as the daughter of Valentine Neuart (Neuhart) (1574 - 1636). In 1648 Hans* Klein acquired the property of Wolff Zorn's heirs in Bobenthal, possibly through inheritance. The value of the property was 15 Gulden. Hans and his wife Ottilia had 7 children, one of whom was David* Klein (1645 - 1693). Hans* Klein died in Nothweiler.

One was our ancestor, Eva Catharine* Klein (1679 - 1741). David was a Nothweiler church elder. A note from the researcher observed that the David Klein family appears to be closely related to Anna Marie Landen, wife of Hans George Schmidt of Wingen. There is likewise an affinity between Johanne Paul and Eva Nee Harrmann Bartholet, as well as Hans Jung, a Swiss, living in Dahn in 1681. At the time of this writing only the Jung name is familiar to me of all the names listed by the researcher. We are still struggling to trace the Jung line. Perhaps at a later date we may discover that Hans Jung, a Swiss, could be a clue as to the origin of our Jung line.

1742) subsequently married N.N. (1680). However, the date of death of Eva Catharine* Klein was not until 1741. Eva Catharine* Klein (1679 - 1741) and Heinrich (Jr.) Bintz (abt 1678 - 1742) were the parents of Heinrich (Jr.) Bintz (abt 1708 - 1753).

The Schwartz name was first added to our family tree with the marriage of Johann Valentin Jung to Maria Catharina Schwartz on June 23, 1734. We have only two generations of this family among our European ancestors. Subsequently, the author's daughter, Pamela Ann Harrington (June 20, 1958 - ) married John Edward Schwartz (January 6, 1959 - ) and at the time of this writing, there are 3 additional Schwartz in the family tree, grandchildren of the author. They are Richard James Schwartz (June 14, 1987 - ), Robert John Schwartz (March 14, 1991 - ) and Jacquelyn Michelle Schwartz (August 19, 1993 - ). This latter Schwartz family is not included in this book, however, they will be included in a separate book of the American descendants of these ancestors.

This couple had 6 children, one of whom was Anna Angelica* Melchior. The following is a note from the researcher: 'Odernheim History (LDS film 1510496) indicates Johannes Melchior helped rebuild the village after the Thirty-Years War, since he was a carpenter. His companion, who was a cabinet-maker, Philipp Seitz, was of Meisenheim. The understanding is that Johannes Melchior was "local" and did not hail from a remote village (such as Meisenheim). It is with high likelihood that his grandfather was Rev. Christopher Melchior who was in Odernheim 1629, and appears to have passed away there shortly before Johann Melchior's birth.' This note would indicate that the lineage of Johannes Melchior (abt 1636 - ?) may be less than certain.
