Linda Golden
writes from Tucson Arizona:
"After my Grandmother (Mildred LAGAISSE DENOLF) passed
away last Christmas..one of the treasures of hers we found
were many 'Belgian Cards'. These cards are carved out of
bone, and somewhat lacey looking. My Grandfather says they
date back as far as the 1800's. There are over a
dozen of them. Most are made from bone, very thin yet very
hard, even brittle, the dates of them range from the 1930's
and back. Some are made of a wax type paper with the
picture on it. One (at left) that was for my great Aunt,
who died as a child (1922) has 'squeeze' button in the
center that still squeaks. The ones that are of bone have a
lace or scalloped edge."
We don't know what the bony cards
are made of, or what the cards are for, so if you can shed
some light on this please write the
webmaster or
Linda.
The back of this card is in
mostly illegible Dutch
The back looks like a postcard.
The back has a short
note but all you can read is "gelukkig"
This one is pretty fancy. On the
back is a nice note from "Susanne".
The back of this one is pretty
murky. Date is 1922?
.
Here's another page full of these cards, plus a picture
of Linda Golden and her grandfather Adolph DENOLF. The page
loads kind of slow because they are full pictures, not
thumbnails, but I figured that if you are that interested
you'll want to wait. I think they're worth it. (Says Jim,
the former webmaster.) Click
