The GOSE Family Tree DataFiles found here are the most extensive genealogy files known to exist for the 1752 immigrant, Stephan Goß (Gose) and the first 5-6 generations of descendants. (Up to around the early 1900s.)

The subject files contain selected information from both the "Pioneers of the Virginia Bluegrass" and the "Annals of Tazewell County from 1800 to 1922" pertaining to the Stephan Gose family as well as pertinent information from "The Gose Book". They also include a great deal of additional information obtained from many other individual family sources and genealogical research - much of which has been contributed by many of you. We will add additional family branch and generation information from "Pioneers of the Virginia Bluegrass" as we have time.

We use the latest version of McAfee virus protection software to help ensure that our system and files remain virus-free.

Unfortunately, as of this moment, we do not have any Family Tree files for any other GOSE immigrant lines. We hope to eventually have something on other GOSE immigrant lines. If you have anything to contribute on this, PLEASE contact us!

Both the GEDCOM and a FamilyTreeMaker (FTM) version of the file is available for downloading by clicking further below. To make the FTM file easier for you to download, it has been compressed into a self-extracting zipped file (WinZip). The FamilyTreeMaker version is the largest file at 1,063 KB unzipped and 165 KB zipped. The GEDCOM version is currently 260 KB. Either of these files will fit on a 3-¹/₂" floppy disk. After downloading the zipped file just double click on the WinZip file icon for the zipped "StephanGose" file and follow the instructions to open it. You will get a message saying that the zipped version of the file is not authorized for distribution to anyone else. (The WinZip program as used here is free shareware for "evaluation purposes" and must not be used for commercial purposes or financial gain. If you would like to try out WinZip, you may download a trial version from their website.)

After clicking to acknowledge that message, you will see a panel that lists the location where the file will be unzipped and saved. If you want it to go somewhere other than to the default "temp" location listed, specify that before hitting the button to unzip the file.

Please don't forget to pass along any additional information that you may have on the first 5-6 generations of the Gose family! You may do so by updating the file on your computer and then sending us the updated family page sections or the entire file. This may easily be done via e-mail attachment. Remember to fully document your sources so that we may in confidence and "good faith" share your contributed information on this website.
