The Oregon Historical Society Library maintains a fine collection of published biographies of state residents. There are some Oregon newspaper files, including an alphabetical card file with abstracts of birth, marriage, and death information from early Oregon newspapers. In addition, Oregon mortality censuses (lists of deaths during the census years 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880) plus index es are also available here. A useful guide to the holdings is Oregon Historical Society Microfilm Guide (Portland, Ore.: Oregon Historical Society, 1973).

The State Archives has substantial holdings of interest to genealogists. The collections include an index to the state's records of births and deaths from 1903 to 1984, plus a few of the early probate files as well as divorces granted by the territorial legislature. The State Archives also holds early service records from the Indian Wars; National Guard records through 1920; records of the Roseburg State Soldiers' Home; an index to World War I veterans; World War I files from the State Historian of the Defense Council (biographical questionnaires); records of the state bonuses and loan applications of World War I veterans, etc.

The Oregon State Library maintains a Genealogical Resource Center in cooperation with the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society and volunteers from the Society are available to assist persons with family history research. Among other items, the State Library catalog lists an alphabetical index to Oregon Donation Land Claims as well as Oregon mortality censuses (reports of deaths during the census years 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880) plus indexes. In addition, the Oregon State Library has some Oregon newspaper files.
