In the name of God Amen, I RICHARD EVANS of the County of Chatham being of sound mind & memory thanks be to God do now make my last will in manner & form following that is to say after all my just debts are paid with all my burial expenses I give & bequeath to my wife the tract of whereon I now live her natural life then at her death to be equally divided into three parts for my sons FILDON, GRANDISON & ANCIL EVANS provided my three sons shall pay to my son JOHN EVANS one hundred dollars within two years of my & my wifes death equally to be paid between them the remaining part of my property I give unto my daughter LUCY BYRD. I make this as my last will & to be revokable other wills make by me.
Signed sealed & acknowledge this June 21st 1855.

(Richard Evans, b.1776-d.1855) filed for a marriage bond to Lucy Evans, b.abt 1776, in Warren Co.,NC on December 17, 1793, bondsman, Randolph Rowe; on that same date & place, Richard was the bondsman for a marriage bond for Randolph Rowe & Susannah Stewart; by 1800, both families, Free Persons of Color, had moved to Chatham County, NC and many of their children later moved to Wake Co.)
