REUBEN EVANS of Wake Co. in the State of N. Carolina who was a ___ in the ___commanded by CAPTAIN DIXON of the Regiment commanded by COL. DIXON in the N.Carolina line for the term of twelve months from 12 May 1781 to 26 May 1782.

Inscribed on the Roll of North Carolina at the rate of eight dollars per month to commence on the 9 day of July 1831

Certificate of Pension issued the 12 of July 1831 and sent to HON. D.S.L. BARRINGER, Raleigh.

Sir I enclose to you the original declaration of REUBEN EVANS as amended at your own suggestion accompanied by the certificate of Mr HILL Sec. of State of his Service- as indicated by the Muster roll; your immediate attention to the claim of this soldier will be duly acknowledged by your obedient servant.

I WILLIAM HILL Secretary of State in and for the State aforesaid do certify that it appears from the musterrolls of the Continental line of this State in the revolutionary war, that REUBEN EVANS a private in CAPT. DIXON’s Company of the 10th Regiment enlisted on the 12th day of May 1781 for the term of 12 months and left the service on the 26th day 1782.

Declaration in order to be placed on the Pension List under the Act of the 18th March 1818.

State of North Carolina
County of Wake.

On this herewith day of April 1831, personally appeared in open Court being a Court of Record for the County of Wake, REUBEN EVANS, resident in said County aged Seventy eight years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his Oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the Acts of Congress of 18th March 1818, and the 1st of May 1820, that he the said REUBEN EVANS enlisted for the term of twelve months, on the 12th day of May in the year 1781, in the State of North Carolina in the company commanded by CAPTAIN SOLOMON DIXON in the regiment commanded by COLONEL WYNN DIXON, in the line of the State of North Carolina, on the Continental establishment, that he continued to serve in the said corps until the 26th May, 1782 when he was discharged from the service in the State of South Carolina, that he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension except the present, that his name is not on the roll of any State, except North Carolina, and that the following are the reasons for not making earlier application for a pension- Your applicant was capable of working and maintaining his family up to the time of making his application and his wants and necessities did not compel him to make an earlier application he being unwilling to be a burden to his country when he was capable of labour. And in pursuance of the act of the 1st May 1820, I do solemnly swear, that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1819 and that I have not since that time by gift sales or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled “An Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval services of the United States in the Revolutionary War” passed on the 18th day March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me, nor have I any income, other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed - That since the 18th of March 1818 no changes have been made in my property by sale or otherwise except such as has been occasioned by the consumption of myself and family for food, and that I have not sold in trust or otherwise any of my property.

Sworn to and declared in open Court, on the 7th day of April, before the Honorable WILLIAM NORWOOD one of the Judges of the Superior Courts of Law & Equity for the State aforesaid.

I, RANSOM HINTON Clerk of Wake Superior Court of Law do hereby certify that it appears to the satisfaction of the Court, that the said REUBEN EVANS did serve in the Revolutionary War, as state in the preceding declaration, against the common enemy for the term of nine months, under one engagement on the continental establishment. I also certify, that the foregoing oath was the Schedule hereto annexed are truly copied from the records of the said Court, and I do further certify that it is the opinion of the said Court, that the total amount in value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule is One hundred & sixteen Dollars and forty cents -

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my had, and affixed the seal of the said Court on this 18th day of May 1831.

November Term 1830

REUBEN EVANS maketh oath that he served as a private in the United States Arming during the Revolutionary War, that he enlisted as a regular Soldier of the Continental line commanded by COL. WYNN DIXON on the 12th May 1781. And that he continued to serve in said Company until he was regularly discharged on the 26th May 1782, having enlisted for and during the period of twelve months.

I REUBEN EVANS do solemnly and sincerely swear that I was a resident Citizen of the United States on the eighteenth day of March One thousand eight hundred and eighteen, and that I have not since that time by gift, sale, or in any manner whatever disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an Act of Congress entitled An Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and Naval services of the United States in the Revolutionary War, passed on the eighteenth day of March, One Thousand eight hundred and eighteen.” And that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities, contracts or Debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the Schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed .
