In the election of 1873 for Governor, we school boys at Lampasas helped
hold the election and when a Negro would come up and get me to help him
vote, I would ask him who he wanted to voter for and, if he said old E. J.
Davis, why I would just put in a vote for Coke. ... ... Ole Coke was
elected alright [sic] and was Gov. When I went in the Ranger
Service in 1874.
I think old Clair Brunson is a nice fellow, his daddy was an old horse

W. [Alexander Perry White} "The ... we are."
I see they are paying off like they used to in script. I bet none of
them ... officers take script for their pay, but ... ... come in and sit
on the jury, you take script for it.
I see them ... fellow on that road working like the ... and some of
them ... ... Big Ikes, setting around in big cars and not doing a ... ...
thing and drawing 4 times as much, but, if I could, I would be like them.

straw hat this time of the year. A. P. W. .... ... I can’t help it. It’s

I would have got out of the Ranger service at the end of 6 months. I
didn’t like Lt. Foster. He was right out of Kentucky and didn’t know a
... thing about the frontier, and he didn’t like me a ... bit better
than I liked him. I was going to stay in the service unless he took Ace
Strickland in my place. It was hard as ... to get in and he had a little
dud of a fellow he wanted to put in my place. The night before he came
around and said, "Perry have you made up your mind." I said,
"Yes, if you won’t take Ace in my place, I am going to stay in the
service." He kinda grinned and said, "Well, I believe I will try
Ace." And that’s how he got in.
We used to take prickly pears and drop in a bucket of muddy water and
it would not be long before the water would clear up. The mud would settle
to the bottom.
Since I have old line insurance, I feel a whole lot better, when I see
a smoke now. I don’t worry about whether I have to help pay for the ...
... thing.
Hosey Underwood’s nephew got mad at him. They met in town and the
nephew said, "Howdy" in a cross manner. Hosey stopped him and
said, " Look here young man, the next time you see me and just say
‘Howdy’ I am going to beat ... out of you. T he next time you see me
say, ‘Howdy Uncle Hosey." which is just what his nephew did and
Hosey said, "... .. That’s the way to talk.
Hosey’s’s wife died. She was Old Sol Gann’s daughter . In those
days they made the coffins. They asked Sol if he wanted the coffin opened,
and he said, "No, she’s dead, and she’s dead as ... at
that."
Hosey later married a Cunningham girl. He went home after the marriage
and the next morning, Old Man Cunningham stuck his head in the room and
said, "What in the ... ... ... are you doing in here?" Hosey
said, " ... .. I married her."
You remember Adair’s Ranch down below Colorado City. Bill had been
stealing shoats and calves from old Adair and Adair said he was going to
hang old Bill the first time he saw him. About that time Adair saw Bill
coming out of a thicket and Adair took after him. Bill surely did run.
All that I hate about loosing my teeth, is "... ... I can’t hold
my pipe stem in my mouth."
Old Sol Moore is looking old as ... . One time me and Sol was staying
up on Holmsely’s ranch. I had the ear ache. "... it hurts." I
told Sol to go down to some old midwife about half a mile away and find
out what to do for an ear ache. I told him ... ...I was going to pour
kerosene oil in it. This ole midwife told him to tell me not to do that. I
would kill me. I thought that I had the ear ache, but ... ... I had the
mumps.
