TEACHERS EXTRAORDINAIRE
Alta Bertte (Tarrant) "Patches"
Santy, daughter of Mordecaia W. Tarrant and Jimmie Grey (Parker)
Tarrant was born July 7, 1906, and died April 19, 1975.
Virgil Martin "Rosie" Santy, son
of Leroy "Roy" Santy and Margaret (Stidham) Santy. was born
April 17, 1902, in Hamilton County, TX, and died March 3, 1959.
"Patches" Tarrant married
'Rosie" Santy on June 6, 1926, Hamilton County Marriage Record Bk. 9,
p. 5.
They had two children:
Leroy Tarrant "Buddy" and Virgene.
Buddy was
born August 22, 1928.
Mrs. Santy taught at Goar,
at Blue
Ridge and perhaps other rural schools in Hamilton County, prior to
teaching in Hamilton High School. She was my English I, English III,
and Speech teacher in high school. To her I am indebted for
developing both oral and written skills I have used all of my life.
Mr. Santy taught science in Hamilton High
School, as well as being Superintendent prior to 1949. He was a good
science teacher--but science was not my favorite subject. He
positively influenced many young lives both in the classroom, as well as
well as in photography, and short wave radio.
The Santys were active members of First
Baptist church in Hamilton.
The Virgil M. Honor Society of Hamilton
High School was named for Mr. Santy.
Mr. and Mrs. Santy were interred in the IOOF
Cemetery in Hamilton.
