D. L. HAMMACK  --1897

Mr. Hammack was born in Wisconsin in 1845,came to Coryell County in 1853, and in 1875 settled on Mustang Creek in Hamilton County.  He was typical of the rugged pioneers who blazed the trails in Texas.  Stated the 1897 Herald:

"Like all those rugged characters of the formative period, Mr. Hammack is a man of generous impulses, and while he takes but little stock in an enemy, can never do too much for a friend, especially one with whom he shared his bear skin, his venison, and his camp fire in early days.  His word is as good and rue as the old time hospitality that he still shares with the stranger and the wayfarer that chance happens to bring to his now comfortable home.  He is reckoned as one of the prominent stockmen of Hamilton County."
