JOHN H. BROWN  --1897

[JOHN HANNAH BROWN]

Mr. Brown was born in Arkansas in 1872. He came to Hamilton with a small capital and bought 160 acres of land in the Blue Ridge Community for $2 and acre. Before many years his holdings increased to 723 acres. He farmed 250 acres and raised high-bred Holstein cattle and Berkshire hogs.

Mr. Brown is still living (1930) in the Blue Ridge community.

[Mr. Brown donated land for the Blue Ridge Baptist Church, the Blue Ridge Cemeteries (Blue Ridge-West Portion, Blue Ridge-north of the church, and Powell-Brown), and the Blue Ridge School #22. For decades he taught the men’s Sunday School class in the Blue Ridge Baptist Church in which he never held membership.]
