H. R. BOYNTON - 1897

Quoting from the 1897 Herald:

"In the Spring of 1875. H. R. Boynton brought from Waco on his own wagon a few cheap bedsteads and mattresses that he offered for sale. This was the beginning of a business that is now the oldest in Hamilton. Of course, it grew and now he keeps nearly every variety of furniture, wall paper, curtains, fixtures, etc. besides everything in the line of undertaking. He was born and grew to manhood in Canada. He went to Australia in 1854 and remained thee about 20 years. He came home in 1873 and located in Iowa, and moved to Hamilton in 1875."

Mr. Boynton was an early postmaster in Hamilton, and probably the first undertaker located here. He was an uncle of Harry Boynton, who now (1938) lives in Hamilton.
