Murphree Cemetery is
about a mile north of Evant
and fourteen miles south of Hamilton
on the west side of US 281. Murphree Cemetery, the final earthly resting
place for many people, was opened as a public cemetery about 1878.

Frank Monroe Upton, 75, died in Temple May 14, 2005. Funeral services were held May 17, 2005 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton, Dick Stovall officiating with burial following in Murphree Cemetery at Evant.
Mr. Upton was born March 27, 1930 at Izoro. He was the son of the late Ira and Odelia Hayes Upton. He grew up at Izoro
graduating from Evant High School in 1949. He was an army veteran, serving on the front during the Korean War. After being discharged from the army he
returned to his boyhood home where he was engaged in farming and raising cattle. He loved to work with his cattle. While running his farm and cattle operation he and his brother Conrad started Upton Construction, owning and
operating heavy equipment building roads, stock ponds and bulldozing. After retiring, he devoted more time to ranching,
enjoying his dog and cats and a great love of his life of playing dominos.
Mr. Upton was married to Iberia Calhoun Lovins of the Ohio community on Dec. 17, 1994. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orvellee Upton and a sister, Ethel McCullough. He is survived by his wife; one step-son, William Lovins of Lorena; six sisters, Margie Coleman, Ira Dell Storm,
Crystal Kraner and Janese Lancaster, all of Lampasas, Loraine Murrah of Temple, Bonnie Davis of Columbia, TN., and one brother, Conrad Upton of Copperas Cove.
Pallbearers were Randy Denning, Jerry Seipert, Mondel Coleman, John Doyne Storm, Dannel Murrah and Trent Lan-caster. Riley Funeral Home
