MASON SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 46 , 1936

 

MASON SCHOOL was the school in the Vista Community which derived its name from Buena Vista Mason, wife of William Turner Mason. The Masons moved to Mason Mountain in 1882 from Leon County, TX. The Vista Community is on FM 2414 north of Fairview and is thirteen miles south of Hamilton. Mason School had seven grades in 1911. The school board in 1924-25 included J. W. Mason, J. L. O’Neal, and R. H. Hedgpeth, while the teachers were R. P. Heizer and Miss Thelma McDonald.

 

Some of the families who lived in the Mason School community included: Ruby Arnett, R. T. and Ethel Baker, Paul and Tempie Bailey, J. G. and Cordelia Barner, W. A. and Irene Bates, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bullard, R. J. and Loyida Bull, Mr. and Mrs. H. Carlisle, Alvin and Johnnie Christian, Lottie Clover, Henry and Martha Easterling, R. L. and Bertha Geeslin, Willie and Nellie Grumbles, Anna Mae Howard, B. F. and Nora McBeth, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. O’Neal, H. H. and Ibie Roberts, I. A. and Bertha Stanford, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Townsend, E. E. and Hettie Tywater, J. E. and Elsie Wagner, and H. C. and M. L. Whitlock.  

The post office for this community was named Vista.
