NEAL, DOROTHY C. 'DOLLIE" (HOLMES)
Mrs. W. P. Neal
Died here Jan. 14
Another Hamilton county
pioneer passed on to the Promised Land of the New Jerusalem last Monday,
Jan 14, when Mrs. W. P. Neal fell "Asleep in Jesus" at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom Smith, in Hamilton.
Since the death of her
husband three years ago Mrs. Neal had continued to live in her own home
in this city, having had with her as members of her household her
daughter and son, Mrs. Donia Faubion and Boyd Neal and his little
motherless son, William Neal. She had gone to Mrs. Smith's home for a
visit when she was stricken with pneumonia, and her body was too frail
to withstand the dread malady.
Many friends and
acquaintances will read with affectionate interest the following brief
sketch of her useful life:
Miss Dollie Homes was born in
Cherokee County, Texas, July 11, 1860. She came to Hamilton at the age
of twenty years and has lived in this section continuously since. She
was happily married to William Perry Neal in the year 1879 and nine
children were born to them, eight of whom survive to mourn the dear
parents. The sons and daughters are J. M. Neal, M. W. Neal, Mrs.
Sam Campbell, Mrs. B. W. Faubion, Mrs. Tom Smith, Rev. E. P. Neal,
Sinton, Texas; Boyd and Mark Neal. Mrs. Neal had served her
Master as a member of the Church of Christ for thirty-nine years, and
her life was beautifully exemplary of the Christian graces of patience,
kindliness, virtue, love and peace. She was a loyal and devoted wife and
mother after God's own heart, and the lives of her children are
desolated because of her passing out of this life. yet they mourn
not as those without hope for they know that she still lives in the
"House not made by hands, eternal in the skies."
On Tuesday afternoon the body
of Mrs. Neal, followed by a long procession of mourning relatives and
friends, was borne to the beautiful Live Oak cemetery in the southern
part of the county. There the funeral service was held in the
tabernacle, conducted by Eld. O. O. O. Newton. Interment was made in a
grave beside that of her husband, who was lost to her on March 14, 1926.

NEAL, WILLIAM PERRY "BILL"
W. P. NEAL
DIED HERE SUNDAY
It is with profound sorrow that
the entire people of Hamilton and the southern section of the county
parts with "Uncle Bill" Neal, who answered the summons to take
up life in he City of the new Jerusalem on Sunday afternoon, March 14 at
6:25 o'clock, after only a few days illness of influenza. Dissolution
took place at his home in the southern part of the city and he was
surrounded by his loved ones and friends.
For more than fifty years
William Perry Neal had been a picturesque character of this section. He
was a Texan and in him were exemplified all the romance of a people so
notably set apart in distinguishing characteristics as to seem to be of
a different race, and he was typical of all those traits and was ever
interesting and highly esteemed. He came from Cooke county to Hamilton
in 1875, and settled in the Ohio neighborhood where he resided until a
year or two ago when he move to Hamilton to reside. He engaged in the
cattle business and in farming and had many wonderful experience when
driving large herds of cattle over the famous old Chisholm trail,
enduring hardships from the menace of Indians and criminals who had
drifted out to this part of the state in the days before Hamilton county
was organized. Forty-seven years ago he was married to Miss Dollie
Holmes here in Hamilton. Nine children were born to them, eight of whom
with the mother mourn his passing to the other shore. The sons are. J.
M. Neal of this county: Marion Neal, of Vernon: Rev. E. P. Neal of
Goldthwaite: Boyd Neal, Ireland and Mark Neal, who resides here in the
home with his mother; the daughters are Mrs. Sam Campbell, Mrs. Ben
Faubion, and Mrs.Tom Smith, all of Hamilton. There are fourteen
grandchildren. He was a father and grandfather who was loved with
a peculiar devotion by the members of the family and he was a devoted
husband.
Had Mr. Neal survived until next
Monday, March 22, he would have celebrated his seventy-first birthday.
He and "Uncle Nath" Billingsley, boyhood friends, and who had
walked all along the journey side to side as neighbors, had planned to
celebrate their anniversaries on that same day, Mr. Billingsley's
birthday being just a few days earlier. Their plans included a big
picnic dinner in the old home community with their loved ones and
friends present to enjoy the day with them. But one of them was taken
and the other is too saddened now to carry out the joint plans.
Accompanied by a large cortege
of friends the body was borne to the Ohio community where he had lived
so long and so honorably, and was laid to rest in the beautiful Live Oak
cemetery with the religious service conducted at 4:30 o'clock by Rev. A.
G. Moreland, pastor of the Goldthwaite Methodist Circuit, assisted
by Eld. G. B. Meeks, of Lund Valley, a minister of the Church of Christ.
A mound covered with beautiful flowers bore evidence that one loved and
lost for a while lies sleeping.

DEATH
OF WALTER TRAVIS SMITH
"He took the cup of life to sip
But bitter it was to drain,
He thrust it gently from his lips
And went to sleep again."
Walter
Travis, the little son of Tom and Annie Smith, quietly and unexpectedly
passed to his home in eternity on the early morning of July 10th, 1909.
During little
Travis' short stay, of about three months, many had learned to love the
bright sweet face of the patient little sufferer. His loss is keenly
felt by the entire community; and we wish to extend our sincere sympathy
to the bereaved family. May they know that by the word of God,
their loss is a precious link in life's chain drawing us nearer to
Heaven and to our God.
"Where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6-21
LITTLE TRAVIS
Tender little hands are folded,
Silently
upon his breast,
Like the lily, God hath molded,
As it softly goes to rest.
And the Angel Children lisping
Where the silent form was laid,
Heard the gentle Savior whispering:
"It is I, be not afraid."
As this comforter, of sorrows,
Paused
to bless the mother's prayer
Angel, singing on the morrow.
By the soft wings of the air,
Bore our darling up to Glory
Where he's waiting patiently
Till the end of life's sad story
Where we'll re-united be.

Another bright home has been made sad by that
awful messenger, the Death Angel. Clovis Eileen Smith was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Smith of Hamilton, Texas, and was born May
18, 1915. She was the rosebud of that home for three months and
twenty-five days, the Death Angel having called for her on September
12th. She was a tiny sufferer all her life, but when not in
agony was a perfect little ray of sunshine. Her remains,
accompanied by a host of friends and relatives, were laid to rest in
the Live Oak Cemetery beside her little brother, who passed to the great
beyond several years ago.
A very impressive
funeral service was held by Elder W. L. Thornton.
To the bereaved
father and mother we could say, look unto the One who giveth and who
taketh away, for comfort, for it is He who can heal the broken heart.
One of the dearest thoughts you have is that your little one has been
transplanted in heaven to await the time when you, too, shall be called
to cross over the river of death, and there shall be reunited, never to
be parted again.
Weep not as those who have no hope,
Your babe is with the Savior, dear;
We know your home is lonely now
Without your precious jewel there.
She was so sweet! Although she's gone,
The precious darling of your heart,
She
now is resting on that shore.
Where loved ones meet and never part.
