Pioneer women exhibited brave courage as they ventured into a new
county where pasture grass grew four to six feet tall, the nearest town
was a week’s journey away, and the danger of Indian warriors lurked
behind every hill, tree, and shrub. A few brave women were adventuresome
enough to homestead land. Of the
5725 claims filed in the Milam District
