FERGUSSON FAMILY PRAYER BOOK

(William Kenner Fergusson, farmer and tailor, and his wife Elizabeth C. Robertson Fergusson brought their family from Richmond Co., VA, to Marion Co., MO, about 1830. Traveling with them was the treasured family Bible (prayerbook) which had been included in the inventory of his father, William Fergusson, when William applied for a Revolutionary War Pension in Richmond Co., VA. The prayer book remained in Marion County, until the Fall of 1859, when it was taken to Fayette County, TX by Robert Jefferson Fergusson. Family members brought the Bible/prayer book from Fayette County, TX to Falls County, McLennan County, and Bell County before it arrived in Hamilton County, TX in 1890.)

William Henry Jarius Fergusson, son of Robert Jefferson and Virginia Fergusson married Sarah "Sally" Alexander Adcock in a double wedding 28 Sept., 1876, in Fayette Co., TX, near La Grange. In that ceremony Sally's brother, Robert "Bob" Alexander Adcock married Martha "Mattie" Ellen Brown at the Brown home. Sally was the daughter of Lucinda Collier Adcock and the late Johnson Adcock.

William Henry and Sarah Alexander Fergusson had ten children:

8. Lenard Theodore, b. 22 Sept., 1895, Hamilton Co., TX.

9. Infant Daughter, b. 8 Apr., 1898, d. 12 Apr., 1898.

10. Infant Daughter, b. 25 March, 1900, d. 24 Apr., 1900.

Sarah "Sally" Alexander Adcock Fergusson was born 26 Nov., 1860, in Holly Springs, Marshall County, Miss. She died 16 June, 1910, Pottsville, Hamilton County, TX.

Robert Jeff, son of Wm. Henry and Sarah Alexander Fergusson married Ida Rose Anna Grisham 9 Nov., 1898, in the J. L. Grisham home at Blue Ridge, Hamilton County, TX. Ida was the daughter of James Lemuel Grisham, Sr., and Margaret Amanda Jones Grisham.

Robert Jeff and Ida had three children:

1. William Claude, b. 2 January, 1900, Blue Ridge, Hamilton County, TX.

2. Clara Elsie, b. 6 April, 1906, Blue Ridge, Hamilton County, TX.

3. Infant Daughter, b. & d. 7 March, 1918, Hamilton County, TX.

Ida Rose Anna Grisham Fergusson was born 15 Sept.,1878, Fannin Co., Tex. Ida d. 14 July, 1948, Blue Ridge, Hamilton County, TX.

Robert Jeff Fergusson d. 24 January, 1954, Hamilton, Hamilton County, TX.

Clara Elsie Fergusson married Robert Verne Crain 15 December, 1929, Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Hamilton County, TX. Verne was the son of James Wesley Crain and Amanda Elizabeth Stribling Crain.

Robert Verne Crain was born 27 January, 1900, Coryell County, TX and died 26 July, 1975. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Hamilton, TX.

Clara Elsie Fergusson Crain died 11 June, 1990. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Hamilton, TX.

A piece of paper was inserted by my mother in July, 1965, into the Prayer Book with the following information:

"Henry Thomas Fergusson--born June 17, 1853, died 21 April, 1904--brother of Great Grandad." (Henry Thomas Fergusson was not a brother of Clara Elsie Fergusson Crain's great-grandad. Her great-grandad was Robert Jefferson Fergusson. Henry Thomas Fergusson was the son of Napoleon Bonaparte Fergusson, who was a son of Robert Alexander, who was a brother of William Kenner Fergusson. William Kenner was the g.g.grandfather of Clara Elsie Fergusson Crain.)
