DINK
FRANKIE (VANN) GOLIGHTLY
For many years Mrs. Golightly (1898-1979) wrote
"Dink" weekly column for The Hamilton Herald-News about
the comings and goings of people in Hamilton. Mrs. Golightly was a
daughter of Lazarus J. Vann and Hattie M. (Shelton) Vann. She was
the second wife of George Burl Golightly.

Building
is really going on in the Elmo Newsom Addition on Barkley Drive. I
drove out that way the other day and learned there was a new house- brick,
three bedrooms and two baths being built for Miss Janice Berry, Home
Demonstration Agent. The brick will be a light brown. Cliff
Jester is doing the building.
Also a new home is being erected for Sonny and Karen
Thompson, being built by Elmo Newsom and his son, Charles. This is a
three bedroom home with a bath and a half. It will also be
brick. There has been a new white brick home built by the Newsoms
for sale and ready for occupancy. To me it looks like a Spanish type
and very beautiful.
Rev. and Mrs. Steve Lee have
been living in a pretty brick home out there for about a year. Rev.
and Mrs. John Weaver are having a house built, and it will be a three
bedroom brick, too.
This is a restricted area and
all he homes are nice. Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Lykins are the first ones
to own a home out there and they just love the loction. Mrs. Lykins'
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Biondo of Miami, Florida,
recently purchased a lot there because they said there are not too many
pretty lots left in restricted areas. It ill be sometime
before they will build because they are much too young to retire; but they
know they will live in Hamilton when they do.
Others
living on Barkley are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cripps, Mr. and Mrs. Wayland
Stephens, and if I have missed anyone I will report it later. All
these people are very nice families and enjoy each other.

Elmo
Newsom and son, Charles, have just completed an educational building for a
church in Jonesboro, and have started on the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan
Abernethy in Indian Oaks. They are also starting a new house for Mr.
and Mrs. John Shearin which will be built across the street from Mr. and
Mrs. Randy Dyer. This is in the southeastern part of town. The
latter house will be a three-bedroom house with two baths and plenty of
room in the remainder of the house. Mr. and Mrs. Shearin came
to Hamilton in December, 1975, when John became chief of Police.
Later he had to resign because of health reasons, and they loved
Hamilton so much they decided to retire here. Mrs. Sherin can't
praise Hamilton enough when she speaks of how fine the people here
are. The love the First Baptist church where they worship, and they
love the people in the church. They hae five children, and nine
grandchildren, and all are away from home except their 13-year-old
daughter, Renee. We are glad they chose Hamilton as a permanent
place to reside and I know the people here like the Shearins as well as
the Shearins like them.
