Miles, McCamey, and San Angelo. Later he served as
chaplain in the Army for three and one-half years. After he returned to
civilian life, he was pastor of Queen Street Church, of Tyler,
Associational Missionary of Smith County. He organized Hillcrest Baptist
Church, in Tyler. In 1952 while he was there, a new church building was
erected. He is now pastor in Demming, New Mexico, and they are erecting a
new house of worship.
H. C. FUNDERBURK, PASTOR 1929 - 1930
Reverend Carroll Funderburk was born in Texas in 1895. He was converted
when a boy and called to preach when he was about twenty-two years of age.
He was educated in the public school of Texas, Rusk College, and Baylor
University. He taught school at Ballinger and preached at Veribest for
five years. Later he served as pastor at Jackson Church, in Palestine and
resigned to become a Chaplain in World War II. He attended the Chaplain’s
School at Harvard University, afterward he served in the Eastern Training
Command until the end of the war.
Since retiring from the Service, he has been pastor of several
churches. Among them were Cayuga, Ben Wheeler, and China Springs. At
present he is pastor at Veribest, Texas.
