They moved to Coryell County near Coryell Church in 1869, where he soon identified himself with the Leon River Baptist Association. While pastor of Coryell Church in 1874 he helped to organize the Bluff Creek Church and became pastor. He was moderator of Leon River Baptist Association for fourteen years. Of his large family only two, Mr. Dan Graves and Miss Josephine Graves are now living. They reside in Gatesville where they are highly esteemed by all.

The first minutes that we have of Coryell Church in conference is October 1885 when a layman John Whitlock presided as moderator.

Sometimes no swift progress of growth and accomplishments of some pastors are noted, but this growth and progress has gone steadily forward and upward with each pastor doing his share and there has been growth in the church because of the growth in Godliness among the people.
