JOHN FOWLER
Once they had John Fowler working in the saloon. He was
very high tempered. He came in once and Cooper was sitting there with his
head all bandaged up. Mr. Williams asked him what was the matter. Cooper
said Fowler shot him. Fowler said he only hit him with a billiard cue. Mr.
Williams said he kept them there until they made friends.
(This is probably the same Fowler who later worked in
Watson’s Saloon on the north side. Lewis Manning up the street had a
saloon, not doing so well. People surged into Watson’s. He went down
there. Was very high tempered, started an argument, and Fowler hit him and
knocked him clear out in the street. (Told by Mr. Brunk.)
