WHEN STRONG MEN MEET
This shooting incident could have been the one thing that would have
set off a downright shooting feud like they did have in some of the nearby
counties about this time and even later. Here neither of these men carried
any grudge. Others might brood and not forget and think they ought to do
something about a fancied offence or slight. The old dueling concept hadn’t
entirely died out. Some of the men had come from old feuding communities
of the old states. In this case Mr. Williams just stayed and nursed Gentry
until he recovered. And there was not uprising or any further trouble.
They would go fishing together, never mentioned it again..
(Uncle Sid Ross told me that it even seemed to help Gentry, that he had
before that suffered from his throat, some difficulty in speaking. That it
seemed to cure his throat trouble.
