SOME FAMILY HISTORY
Mr. Williams’ father was a doctor, and originally from Georgia. They
first came from Falls to Hamilton County in 1868, the year after the
school house massacre down on the Leon River
when the teacher Anne Whitney was killed
by the Indians. His father’s health was not good, there wasn’t much
chance to practice here, and they went back in less than a year. The Piersons
stayed in this county.
Mr. Williams said he came back here to stay in 1873. His mother had
remarried and he did not stay at home much. That "Grandma,"
Mrs. Nancy Pierson, bought the Griffin Hotel (where the Hamilton Bank
and Trust Co. Was) in 1876 and ran it for many years. I can remember here
there myself in her old age.
