IRA ELMER BERRY

Ira E. Berry, 81, husband of the former M. Leona Stocks of Golden Hill, died at 5:30 Saturday morning, April 19, after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 25, 1898, in Hamilton County, Texas, the son of the late William Chesterfield and Ella Wilson Berry.

He was raised and attended public schools in Texas. Mr. Berry was a veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army from May 1917 to August 1921. Upon being discharged he moved to Baltimore and was married to the former M. Leona Stocks July 2, 1924.

While in Baltimore he was employed by the Fairfield Dairy and the United Railway Co. He moved to Dorchester County in 1944 and was employed by the Cambridge Wirecloth Co. until 1957.

Mr. Berry was formerly a member of Chesapeake Barracks, World War 1 Veterans.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Ira L. Berry of Taylors Island; one stepdaughter, Leola G. F. Keene of Madison; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one step-brother, C. T. Lawson of Meredian, Texas; two stepsisters, Nell Schwartz of Hamilton, Texas and Lula Chambless of Henderson, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at the Furnace Mountain Cemetery, near Leesburg, VA. on Monday at 1 pm. by the Rev. Maynard Lee Booher, pastor of the Frederick, MD. Church of Christ.
